We have a 2001 MDX.
Has anyone had a problem with their MDX stalling or just quiting as you are slowing down?
This has only happened twice while driving in the city when slowing down before making a turn. |

| It has happened several times to me, almost always in the first mile of driving after sitting overnight. I don't consider it to be a big problem. You might do a search on "stall" or "stalling". One possible cause could be a cracked or otherwise damaged vacuum hose somewhere on/near the engine. And there's a slight chance that it could be the immobilizer system shutting off your fuel pump; do a search on "immobilizer". |

Not on the MDX but on my 99 Accord 4CL. In the beginning the car would stall when it slow down but it got worse later that my car would stall even in high speed(yes, on the freeway!). I took my car to autoshop. They thought the starter was bad and asking $300 to fix it. So I took my car to the dealer. That was when I found out about the recall for IGNITION SWITCH. The dealer fixed it for free even though the warranty was already expired. 2001 MDX is not on the recall list but I think you should take your car to the dealer for inspection.
Report from NHTSA
ON CERTAIN SEDANS, COUPES, HATCHBACKS, AND SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES, ELECTRICAL CONTACTS IN THE IGNITION SWITCH CAN DEGRADE DUE TO THE HIGH ELECTRICAL CURRENT PASSING THROUGH THE SWITCH WHEN THE VEHICLE IS STARTED.
Consequence:
WORN CONTACTS COULD CAUSE THE ENGINE TO STALL WITHOUT WARNING, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH
Potential Number Of Units Affected : 1000000 |

For anyone following this thread,
Our dealer, Bradshaw Acura in Greenville, SC, found a fix for our
stalling 2001 MDX.
The dealer replaced the EGR value and the MDX hasn't stalled since.
If you want to know the details of exactly what was done you will
have to contact our dealer's Repair Manager.
