| I'm thinking about getting one of these for my next car. Wife has an '02 MDX with navi. Nice car, but legroom seems a bit snug to me (I'm 6' 3"). I've driven then '04 MDX and it seems much nicer than the '02. I've also recently driven the '04 RX 330. It's quite nice, but there are a few things I don't like about it. The navi system is not even remotely intuitive, unlike the MDX. The armrests suck. Visibility isn't as good. And it's more expensive. I'm interested in the opinions of people who have extensive experience with each of these vehicles. Could you provide me with pros and cons? Thanks. |

I looked at the RX330 before I purchased my '04 MDX. Here's my take...
1. The RX330 has more cabin noise than the MDX. The MDX was noticeably more quiet.
2. I liked the throttle response of the RX, however, the I couldn't tell the difference with the MDX in highway driving.
3. The MDX has more cabin room than the RX.
4. RX does not have the third row.
5. I like the RX's ability to adjust the ride height, but don't know why I would need it. The MDX has decent clearance for where I usually go.
6. Admit it, the MDX looks much better and the navi is top notch.
7. The MDX was a better buy. More bang for your buck eh.
I am happy with my MDX and am actually about to Zaino it today.:) |

We looked at the RX330 as part of our research and basically we felt the the RX330 was simply an all-wheel drive version of the ES330 in a taller platform
Not much more room that the sedan would have given us. It is very refined and a great vehicle but it seemed it was geared more toward people who did not need more space.
The MDX has:
1) more useable torque, you can feel it's responsiveness easily during a test drive.
2) much more shoulder room and interior space, plus a 3rd row seat
3) much better navi system
4) MDX is "THE" Acura SUV, the Rx330 is the lowest (smallest/cheapest) SUV in the Lexus lineup. |

| Thanks for the info so far. Keep the responses coming. Does anyone know what changes are in store for the '05 MDX? |

i was looking into the RX and X5 before i bought my '04 MDX in late december.
- first off lexus dealers were rude IMO. maybe because i look younger than i am and dress like it also but that's no reason to treat me like dirt. if they only knew i was walking around in there dealer w/ $7500 on me i bet they would have treated me better. i went to an acura dealer right after my second lexus dealer and it was like night and day in the way i was treated. the only thing that is better than the X in my opinion is the RX's interior -more stylish and expensive looking. on the outside the X looks better. the X has more balls. the X is roomier. the X is rated better. the X is the best buy. frig lexus i'm happy w/ my X and i am glad i went with it over the RX because every time i see an RX now it just looks more like a female's car. that's all my wife wants when she gets a new vehicle in another year or so. |

It's refreshing to hear something negative about a Lexus dealership for a change. Most comments have been that people are treated better at Lexus than Acura dealers.
Of course, there are exceptions all the time. In this day and age, it would take some real dinosaur to think young people might not have as much or more money than older folks and treat them differently.
Most of us agree, the X is more aggressive and sporty as well as better looking. |

The old RX300 was often refer to as a female car, but I am not so sure about the RX330. I would think that most female would find those new tail lights pretty ugly.
As for the comparison of the two cars. Two totally different car really. The MDX is a 7 seater with plenty of cargo space and is actually capable of handling some rough terrain. The RX330 is a luxury car on stilts, it has almost no off road capabilty and no utility to it what so ever, its more like a station wagon.
It really comes down to what you want to do with your car. Going from point A to point B and need just enough room for groceries, then the RX is for you. If you like a car that is a little tougher but still not truck like, then the MDX is a great choice. |

| I don't own either car yet although I'm in the market. I'm 6'4" and found the Lexus small and in particular shy on leg comfort. Just make sure if you are serious about it that there is enough thigh support - I found the seat just too short from front to back and I couldn't angle it sufficiently to be comfortable. |

There are also several other threads comparing the RX330/300 with the MDX. Do a search. Both are great vehicles designed for different needs - I love them both for different reasons! Best thing you can do is to try drive both extensively & then decide. Good luck |

I got the RX330 for a loaner car when I took my ES300 in for some service.
I drove it home for an hour and I'm not particularly impressed with anything on the SUV.
Maybe because I am used to my MDX, I don't know.
A few things.
-Wind noise is lower in the RX
-Engine is quieter in the RX
Other than that, I think the MDX is much more "musclular" car, especially in its styling.
In fact I am very happy that I got this opportunity b/c I always wondered about this comparision. Now I know...
Hands down, the MDX is better!
(I hate the interior of the RX...I though MDX had cheap plastics but the RX is no different...very much Toyota-like except for the plush leather and wood trim...) |
