I was going to order some oil filters from Tim but I don't see the filters on the MDX oreder page. I do see a set on the CL page though.

I would consider the Walmart SuperTech like some here recommend but the nearest Walmart here does not seem to sell the size for the MDX. :(

My MDX, 2000 3.2 TL, and my Son's 1996 Civic EX, all use the same oil filter if that helps you any:) Here are the exact ones that I ordered from Tim, http://www.hondacuraworld.com/Merch...ategory_Code=CC

Thanks.

and same as for my Honda Accord 96, uses the same as MDX. My recent order of filters from Tim are a little bit smaller than usual and when I asked him about it, he said it's the new Honda's filter, I hope it's better.

Yeah, who says size matters!!! Maybe smaller is better .(in this case...).....but bigger is BEST! :D

All Hondas and Acuras use the same oil filter except for the Legends and the pre-88 Civics and accords

And the smaller ones say, "Manufactured by FRAM"...the older and larger ones say, "FILTECH INC".

That's not entirely true. The filters that we are currently shipping are manufactured in Canada by Honeywell.

Interesting. So manufacturer may vary. But all would have to meet some minmum Honda standard, unless Honda just calls out a minimum SAE standard for their filters.

On Tim's site, Click on "All Products" & in there is a clickable link to the pic of the oil filters! (AOF) :2:

I changed my oil at the dealership last January and it has one of the bigger filters. Are all dealerships using the smaller ones now?

Allied Signal bought Honeywell a few years ago. AS is the parent company of Fram. They also manufacture for other brands including some OEM filters. When you spend the extra coin on a Honda filter, wouldn't you rather see Honeywell on it rather than Fram or some cheap-sounding brand you can buy at Wal-Mart ? I'll stick with the Honda filters for now; sometimes the inlets/outlets are different to fit a wider array of vehicles. Sometimes I've had an o-ring instead of a gasket and vice-versa.

I'm sure its fine and meets design requirements. Its just strange when I go from this larger to auch a small filter.

BTW, I jsut happened to change the oil out early ar 2k becasue of time and travel restraints, and I know that the color of the oil is not an indication if the oil has any life left in it, but it was already black by this point?

Anybody else find that the oil gets dirty relatively quickly? (5-w20 mostly short <5 mile trips)

With those short trips I would be inclined to change oil at the severe interval, 3750 mi. if not sooner. You are probably not boiling off as many impurities.

I change mine every 5000 but it does darken quite a bit by 3000. Of course detergents are keeping particulates suspended as they should which is the major reason.

I used to swear by FRAMM filters as I used them on several cars that were well up into the 150-180k mile range. I've heard from others lately the FRAMM quality has gotten very poor and they have instead recommended MANN filters (oem for Volvo and Porsche).

I'm still not convinced that FRAMM quality has gone down, but didn't have any info to dispute all the comments I read.....

Usually very conscious about what I put on or in my MDX. But if the fliters say Honda or Acura on them I am really not too concerned. They get changed regularly anyway.
While there have been 'studies' etc. on which is best, I see nothing conclusive as to long term results. Doubt I ever will.

By the way, if FRAM is now FRAMM, is MANN really MAN? Haha ..just having fun with you!:2:

I agree. Thankks :D

I've also noticed that in most cases, the branded part is not that much more expensive than the manufacturer's price (except for Porsche which is a whole different issue).

That's true. And in a 'lot' of 6 from Tim, usually includes a more discount...worth asking about.

Not on the oil filters. Was using K&N airfilters. But switched to TrueFlow.
