Hey everybody,
I was wondering if I should worry about the tires holding gravel and kicking it up onto the paint. I'm worried that if I drive on gravel/dirt roads that I'll end up having a fender full of chips. (This also determines whether I get Silver or Black)
Thanks!

How rough are the roads?
The SRS booklet contained in the owner's manual packet highlights (page 12) "special situations" and states. "If a wheel drops into a deep pothole, or you strike a hard, raised object such as a curb or speed bump, a brief high rate of deceleration may cause the airbags to deploy."

Sheesh! That sounds pretty bad.
Actually, what I was thinking was just level gravel roads. However, when you make a turn, the front wheels start kicking up gravel - so I was wondering if the gravel is able to get high enough to ruin the fenders. I was hoping the wheel well was designed to hold the dirt down.

A friend from highschool decided to work in a salmon fishing town in Alaska before college.
He sent back pictures of pick-ups that looked as if they had been sand blasted, holes all the way through the metal...
If you feel a real need to take an expensive vehicle WAY off road I would suggest a HumVee... (even Range Rovers pale in comparision and Jeep Wranglers/CJ's are not expensive)
The MDX is definatley optimized for less extreme conditions. I think the tread on either the Michelins or Goodyears will hold LOTS of stones and the wheelwells are not deep enough (nor rugged enough) to prevent all of those from getting spit onto the paint... |

oh no!!!!!!! I thought I could go flying down a rocky desert in mexico/guadalajara (?) after
watching those commercials and that's why i got the mdx. now you are telling me that it can put holes in my fender and the airbag will deploy 2843 times before I hit guadalajara?!????? At least I can count on Acura TLC every time my air bag deploys - would they get there in a MDX or a HumVee???

| For what it's worth (probably not much), my son and I went tooling around a large gravel parking lot in the MDX a few weeks ago. It was lots of fun, and the truck (including the body and paint) does not seem to be any worse for it. Next stop, Mexico! |
