Rear doors........................Any

Gonna get the front 2 windows tinted ANYWAY !
I'll keep you all informed to what percent.
(I want the whole truck to look the same & match perfect)
May 18th I'm getting the front 2 windows professionally done by Solor Perfection/Detailed sounds.

| What % tint is the stock tint on the back windows? Good idea Acura4Life, I've changed my profile too... |

Good question. Maybe the back window tint percentage is in the owner's manual.
Anyone know?
If not, I'll check later.
I'm going to have the professional place decide what percentage best matches the back of the MDX.

I believe it is 35%. That's what I got put on for my front windows and it matches pretty good with the rest of the windows.

| If you read the little text in the front windows, it states that they are alreay tinted to some degree. Anyone figure out how much yet? I'd hate to add the "allowed percentage" for my area and then find out that I'm getting ticketed because the two together put me over the limit (lousy 50% in Ohio anyway...) |

As per the link above, I checked the % tint allowable for rear windows and Arkansas has the lowest limit at 10%. If the stock % tint on the rear windows is say 35%, does MDX owners registered in Arkansas automatically get ticketed? Not sure how that works but does it seem logical that Acura (or any other car manufactures) can only tint the rear windows at the miniminum allowable % tint in order for mass disturbition in the US (i.e. % tint of the rear windows can only be as high as the lowest allowable % tint which is 10%)?
BTW, if you are responding, can you please let me know the $ and how much time it took to tint? Any info regarding what to be aware of, workmanship, material, etc. would be great. Thanks.

I got a price quote of $60 to do the front 2 windows.
It will be film tint, and is very difficult to install yourself correctly so that no bubbles occur and it lasts a long time. Have it done professionally and pay the money. Trust me, I have tinted windows before and it took hours (because I'm anal) and it still did not look perfect.
Based on everyone's responses, I'm NOW leaning toward getting 35% (if they have 35%, or 25%) on my 2 front windows. I really like the look of the vent visors with the tint....definitely going to get those bad boyz too !
Tee...hee :D |

I thought when a 10% value is listed, that means the tint is dark and is meant to allow 10% of the light in? It's been awhile since I had gotten a rear window tinted, but I believe I had 5% tint installed.
I had my tint installed when I purchased the car, the dealer gave me a deal that I thought was reasonable. I wouldn't even think about installing it myself (my .02). Personally, I think anything under $80 is a good deal. Also, you have to take into consideration the quality of the film and the associated warranty. |

That's correct. 10% tint allows ONLY 10% of all light to pass through. 5% is the darkest and is also called LIMO tint. You can not see in 5% at all.

I have been tinting my cars for years and I have used the same shop for the last 4 jobs. I think $80 for two windows is very high. As I noted earlier, I paid $35 for the two windows. Maybe because its So. Cal., rates are cheaper. We have professional tint shops all over the place here. Competition is keen.
I would never tint my own windows. |

In NJ, to tint only 2 windows, $60 is a good deal.
Remember: IT IS ILLEGAL TO TINT FRONT WINDOWS IN NJ.
Tint shops are not that common.
My friend just bought a brand new 2001 Mit. Galant GTZ 4 door. He is bringing his car to get all 5 windows tinted. That's the entire car. It is going to cost him around $150-$160. That's really NOT a bad deal here in NJ. Our tint jobs will be guaranteed for LIFE. ANy problems, rips, tears, worn...bring it back & replaced for FREE !!!
This is the CRAZY state of NJ, we're talking about here, not Cali. Wish I lived in Cali. :( |

| We paid $45 for the dealer to tint the front windows. They will warrant the tint job for the duration of the factory warranty. |

aCURA4life - come on out.
We still have lots of space left in Ca.
Better bring a generator with you. Seems we are having a little energy problem. |

OH....MAN....I'd love to move out there !
Maybe someday, when I can afford to move out there and afford the Real Estate.
Until then I still have my house down the "Jersey shore."
I'll be on the beach under the sun and in the ocean every weekend this summer. Rented a shore house from Memorial Day to Labor day. Takin' the MDX and the motorcycle down there !! Chicks will be diggin' em !!!!
Can't wait. It's finally hitting 80+ degrees here.
Later ! |

My wife is from Jersey, Rutherford, and she and all her friends always go "down the shore"...I always ask them -- what the hell is "down the shore". Where "down the shore" are you going, We are going MDW to sea girt. She wants to take me to seaside heights boardwalk..she also wants to take me to the Midway steak house?? What do you think -- any other suggestions. She would freak if I told her I wanted to go to a particular place -- can you give me a name...
How do you like the Honda? I have a lot of friends that ride Hondas -- but I'm a Kawi guy myself...I would love to ride in Jersey when the weather is cool... |

| has anyone definitively stated what the factory tinting percentages are for the back windows????? someone said 35% matched perfectly and some said 15% was perfect..... or should i just trust the judgment of a professional???? |

jLiveMDX,
It will depend on your installer, by that I mean the mfg of the tint film. They only make specific % tint films (3-6). I have 21% tint and it is very close, it depends on the light conditions. |

California recently changed their tint law. They now only allow a 70% tint (blocking 30% of the light) on the front, and this percentage INCLUDES the factory tint, if any. Most people I know here get 50% tint and have had no problems with that.

New York has the same law, 70% max on front side windows. I have been driving now for ~ 3 weeks in 3 different states, no problems yet. In New York, the fine is ~ $35 and the judge will usually throw it out. I have sat next to police at several lights, with out incident.
It is a calculated risk, and from my point of view the benfit outways the (potential) cost. |
