Brief history:
Acura's were for us American's only until recently they started to ship "stepbrothers Honda's" called Acura's to Canada. So basically its a Civic with an Acura Badge. Just as the Acura TSX is really nothing but a European Honda Accord, badge an Acura TSX for us stupid Americans !

Also Acura models are HONDA's in Japan ! Go figure......:rolleyes:

Acura MDX: Made in Canada
Acura RL: Made in Japan
Acura NSX: Made in Japan
Acura CL/TL: Made in America, designed by Americans in California, built in OOOOOOOHIGHOOOOOO, nothing Japanese about em.....but the transmission
Acura RSX: Made in Japan
Honda Accord: Made in America, nothing Japanese about it but the crappy transmissions........

| It is obviously just a fancy Civic...but you must admit the Acura badging, restyled front/back end and heated seats are a nice addition to the Civic! |

| I used to own a 2001 Acura EL Premium. What that gets you is a fancy Civic. The 1.7L 127hp engine, 4 wheel disc brakes, sunroof, heated leather seats, redone front and rear styling, and 15" rims. It's all Civic after that. |

My parents own an Acura 1.6 EL.
It is correct that it is only offered in Canada, and originally started up in 1997.
It is byfar the best selling Acura (next to the RSX) in Canada.

We are an Acura EL enthusiasts club. It is true of the EL that it shares many components with a Civic, much like the MDX does with the Pilot. The 1.7 EL doesn't have such distinctive styling, however, the 1.6's had very distinctive differentiated, much-sought after front ends for the aftermarket group. |
