My wife's '04 MDX was recently hit-and-run in a parking lot. There was some damage done to the passenger side bumper and the rear passenger side wheel was scuffed.
We had the MDX repaired last week which included them needing to remove the wheel. When my wife picked it up and drove home yesterday, she noticed that the TPMS sensor light stayed on. When I got home I turned the car on and did not find the TPMS light stayed on. I took it for a test drive and did not see a problem.
The TPMS light does come on momentarily when you turn the ignition switch on as does the individual tire indicator lights. I understand this is normal. The only issue I found was that they forgot to cap the stem and so we'll need to go back and have them do that on Monday.
Do you think there are any issue we need to be concerned with or do you think the system just needed to be reset (by turning the car on/off) after my wife first picked it up?
TIA. |

| Unfortunately the wife reports that the light came on again. They must have screwed it up when they put the wheel back on. |

| Have you manually checked the air pressure? Maybe it needs air? |

I too am having problems with my TPMS, also on an 04. However, I've had no accidents like yours that could have cause the problem.
Here's a history of the problem...btw, I already have almost 10k miles on my 04 as I do drive it alot during ski season :-)
1. TPMS light came on and soon indicated front right tire had pressure problem. I pulled into a gas station and found no almost no diff in pressure betwen the 4 tires. Pumped a little air into the front right anyways and problem went away. This was probably at around 2k miles
2. About 1k miles and several ski trips later, the TPMS light came on again but never indicated that any tires had problems. According to the manual, this indicates a problem with the TPMS system itself, not the tire. Anyways, restarting the car made the problem go away and it didn't come back...and yes, I did check the tires before restarting.
3. The light came on 1 or 2 more times but didn't indicate any problems in the next several weeks. At this point, I was suspicious/paranoid that I might have problems with the tires. Anyways, at 7500mile service, I asked the tech to check the tires for any slow leaks. He didn't find any. Silly me, I should probably have asked him to run diags on the TPMS. But at that time, I had no reliable way of recreating the problem.
4. Drove several ski trips after the 7.5k service without any problems. Left the MDX in the garage for a week without driving it at around 9K miles
5. Took it out of the garage and drove up to Lake Tahoe after the one week hiatus. In about 20 minutes, the light came on. Went to the gas station, checked tires and all were OK.
6. Restarted car, and TPMS light was off....I thought it was the same problem as before. But about 20 minutes later, light came on again. Rechecked tires and they were OK. I verified that all the tires were at about 32PSI.
7. Resume trip to Tahoe, and dang it! The light turned on after about 20 minutes. Oh well, finished trip with this behavior. The light came on anywhere from 5-20 minutes of driving....every time now!!!
8. Called dealer and told them about the problem...person answering the phone didn't even know what TPMS was until I explained it. Anyhow, called last Monday, service got scheduled for that coming Thursday morning.
9. Dropped off car in morning, got a TSX loaner...cool!!!
10. Got called from service shop saying that problem was "fixed". They said my rear tire pressures were at 46PSI!!!! Huh?!!! I verified it was 32PSI when the light first came on...hrm...but I didnt check it before bringing it to the dealer.
11. Anyhow, went to pick up the car at around noon and sure enough light was off and proceeded to drive to the office.
12. 20 minutes into the drive, the light came back on!
13. Drove it right back to the service guy and pointed at the light with alot of frustration.
14. They are keeping my car til atleast this coming Wednesday. They already gave out all the loaners so they had to go rent me a Expedition @Enterprise next door. It looks and drives/handles like a piece of #$@#
15. Keeping my fingers crossed. Folks, if you are reading this, how many miles do you have on your 04 and have you ever seen the TPMS light come on?
Am I the only one who have put so many miles on the 04 and seeing a fundamental problem? Or is it just my copy of the MDX? |

thec,
Sorry to hear about your TPMS problem. In my opinion, they should troubleshoot the four sensors on the tires. Easiest way is to replace your set of four tires with the ones on the other X which doesn't have the problem to rule out the sensor's problem. If problem persists then it's the computer's problem, not the tires or the tires' sensors.
I kind of wonder if you pay extra to get free loaner.
My next door neighbor just bought the Ford Expedition last week. It looks cool with two tone. I am curious what makes you call it drive like #$#$%^&. He used to drive the old Dodge RAM '80 van. Don't know why he picked Expedition. |

No I didn't have to pay anything to get the expedition....apparently, Enterprise charges an "upgrade" price to get an SUV, but the service guys paid for it.
Wednesday has come and passed but I didn't get a call from them about my MDX. I guess I have to call them tomorrow to see what's up.
As for the Expedition, the handling is just horrible compared to the MDX. My cousin's 10 year old Ford Ranger pickup drives better than that. Also, it has a cloth interior; so there's a built up of static electricity when you shift around or get in/out of the car. I have yet to not get zapped everytime I get out of the car and touched the door to close it. EVERYTIME!!! Come on, I have had cloth interiors in previous cars before....still do in my wife's. I have never been zapped getting out of any of those. And the "premium" stereo instrument panel....ugh! |

Broffneck,
U can go to used computer store and get a static cord. Wear the cord on your wrist and tap the other end to the body of the car whenever you get in the car. That way you won't be zapped like a bug. |

| Hey Oh Baby........ what the hell are you talking about?? |

| Pardon me, I should address it to thec about the static. |
