At least these guys are ... upfront! (Oops, almost said "honest" :))

Based on Acura Web site pricing, one can buy almost all accessories "known to man" for $2,500.

People, do your homework. It appears that some neighboring states have virtually NO wait. A day's worth of travel and a few phone calls should be cheaper than $2,5K.
First off, please post things like this in the Classifieds forum. Generally, spamming isn't allowed here, however we do accept posts that are beneficial to the members of this site. Whether or not this post is beneficial will depend on clarification of your offer.

Are you saying that you are including $2500 worth of accessories for free, or are they forced add-ons? If they are free, you'll get a lot of business! However, if they are not and are a condition of purchase, you will find yourself subject to the ridicule of the members on this site (do yourself a favor and do a search under "John Bruno").

We're all curious now.
Tim, you bet you pay for them. What's happening now there is still a back order of MDX's, but what the dealers are doing now is getting a half dozen or so MDX's per month that they will not allow the sales people to put a name on. These MDX's they are adding accessories to or giving the option to the customer of choosing what options they want, but you must choose $2500 to $3500 worth of options. As a sales consultant I think its tacky. I have customers on order list that are being put off because I can't use the accessorized vehicle without the markups. I'm being faced with the same problem here in Portland now. My GM came back from CA after a convention with all these great ideas.
Almost forgot, you may notice a slight increase in the accessories on these also. It bothers me to call folks and tell them you can get one now if you want $3000 dollars worth of accessories.

I assumed that was the case, but I figured that I would give PCBryan the benefit of the doubt.

Aren't those meetings great? In another job I had, the managers would all come back "charged up" and thinking that they were able to "reinvent the wheel".

It's obvious that PCBryan doesn't come here much.....
Isn't it interesting how there are 2 post about Peyton Cramer Acura within 20 minutes of each other from 2 new members that just happened to register the same day? One with only accolades for the dealership, which just happens to mention one of the salesmen at the bottom of the 1st post here, and the other, an offer to draw buyers in with "available" MDX's.

http://www.acuramdx.org/forums/show...p?threadid=1662
At this thread, you'll also notice rannyk waited so long he/she ended up picking up the MDX at Cerritos Acura. If they are so great and there is no wait, why do others have to go somewhere else? No wait at this dealership doesn't sound right when they're so many waiting at all other dealerships. Or are there actual dealerships out there that now have an available inventory (without gouging)?

Roger, maybe this is one of the techniques they learned at that meeting?
Thanks for reading my note. I am an Internet Sales Guide at Peyton Cramer in Torrance. Perhaps some clarification is necessary. I trust that my note wasn't construed as 'spam', the same as junk mail, unsolicited materials that are undesired.

I hope I am correct in believing that this site is visited by people who are enthusiastic about the MDX, and may want to purchase one of these great SUV's. As a representative of an authorized dealer, I merely offer an opportunity to locate the car they want, and have a straight up price.

It bothers me that the phrase 'capitalism is alive and well' is being used in a negative sense in reference to the MDX. Our dealership has a policy of adding additional equipment, versus a straight cash amount over sticker to soften the 'sting' of a market add. The prices of these accessories are inflated. Obviously, that's where we make our additional profit. It would be quite a bit simpler, and far more profitable to add a cash amount of $2,500 over sticker, but that's not very palatable, is it?

Even at market-adjusted prices, the MDX STILL represents a strong value versus M-Class, X5, or RX300. I think we all can agree to that!

The supply of MDX will be short of demand for quite some time. It is well known that this isn't an artificially produced phenomenon. It's merely a natural response of the marketplace to an in-demand product.

A poster from NY has stated something to the effect that MDX are available at list just hours away. If that is indeed the case (which I just verified by AcuraLink is not), GREAT! Go get one.

In Southern California, we receive the best incoming inventory in the country. Plain and simple. My dealership receives an allotment of 12 or so cars a month. Most have deposits on them weeks, if not months in advance. When there isn't a deposit, the unit sits for perhaps 24 hours before sold.

I have had success selling TL Type-S models to out of state buyers. This is another car that is in short supply in certain city centers.

http://www.acura-tl.com/ubb/Forum14/HTML/001149.html

My customers speak for themselves about me. Any reader looking for an outstanding car with a minimum of hassle AND wait time, can call on me. Even though this is a hot product, I am at your service. If just for a test drive, so that a newbie can see how great the MDX is. Fair enough?

Thank you for your enthusiasm. It is proof positive of Acura innovation!

Or go to Keyes in Van Nuys who get 40+ cars a month (as the biggest dealer in CA) and don't pay over MSRP or have any options forced on you. No this is not an endorsement of Keyes - but that is the deal they're offering with delivery taking two weeks on average (or so they say).

I speak only of the general volume of cars for the REGION, not the dealership. PCB
I'm sure we here at acuramdx.org appreciate your "generosity". I too am an Acura dealer and understand full well about MDX demand. But we don't force options, and we do sell at MSRP. Capitalism IS alive and well, just more for some than others.

As per the administrator on this site, all posts from non-advertising dealers will be deleted from this point on. If you are interested in advertising here as I do, please contact info@acuramdx.org.

ka-boom. how poetic that Tim's first kill as moderator is a forced, inflated accessory thread. :)

doesn't get any better than that.
Funny, I offered the chance to purchase a great car to someone who might be having trouble finding one. As an AutoNation rep, I don't make dealer policy, I merely follow it to the best of my ability. Instead, I am responded to with hostility and ignorance. I am pleased that the moderator is playing 'the saint'. If his dealership is promising MDX without markup and accessories(which I seriously doubt), go for it! I can't offer that, and the market in general does not support that.

What I can offer is a forthright sales approach, availability and service offered with courtesy. No more, no less. Cheers.

You really need to use acuramdx.org as a research site. You'll be amazed at how much you can learn by reading the forums here, good and bad. Just some comments on your last post:

1) You're a comedian, right?
2) EVERYONE is having trouble finding one!
3) "HOSTILITY"? What do you expect. This web site can easily prove how "IGNORANT" you are about other dealerships, the deals (read: bought at MSRP with no forced accessories), and experiences of MDX owners and possible owners.
4) If you surf this site, you will find that a majority of MDX owners have purchased their vehicles at MSRP without forces accessories, IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA!! (Like I did at Acura 101 West and the same deal from Ventura Acura and Keyes.)
5) The market DOES support it because it's happening and this site will prove it to you. Just read a little.
6) "Forthright" as in "honest" and "upfront" yes you have done that. "Availability", yes most buyers won't bite at the forced accessories but those who just can't wait will pay. This is OK but don't make it sound like it's fair, BECAUSE IT'S NOT! You already have a healthy profit on the truck. "Courtesy" well calling potential customers hostile and ignorant doesn't sound too courtious.

"No more, no less" This is another joke, right?
Thanks for the reply! I think it's great that you were able to get your truck for sticker! I can only state what I am able to do.

acuramdx.org IS a teriffic research tool. My last MDX customer is the one who told me about it. They did a little research, and found it helpful. This customer waited 8 days for a car that I found for him, purchased $2,000 worth of accessories at dealer prices. He was frustrated that he couldn't find a Granite Touring ANYWHERE in So. Cal. . I got one within the 10 days promised, and apart from the windshield he replaced today($642, ouch!), he's thrilled with the truck.

As mentioned in a previous thread, Keyes Acura in Van Nuys DOES get 40 MDX a month. There might be 120 in the L.A. area (metro pop. over 9 million) per month. However, this does not even come close to addressing the demand for the MDX.

It just begs the question, "Why are most dealerships able to sell MDX over sticker?" I wonder what you're answer the groups answers will be. No one puts a pistol to their head, even if it is painted Mesa Beige!

I hope you enjoy your MDX.

Let me stop your wondering and give my answer which may be similar to many others: "Because people are willing to pay!" What kind of question is that? (Oh, I forgot, we are all ignorant here.)

No one is putting a pistol to their head but the slimy fingers of greed are picking the pockets of the MDX buyers. Thing is, there are buyers getting MSRP, "no more, no less". Even in the So Cal area! Yes, they wait but they are.

It just begs the stupid question, "Why are most dealerships like yours selling the MDX over sticker by adding forced over-priced accessories?" I wonder what your answer would be.

PCBryan at Peyton Cramer Acura in Torrance, you're on your own on the comment about Mesa Beige. Good luck.

Admin, the next weekly poll needs to be, "Did you pay: 1) Under MSRP (HA!) 2) MSRP 3) Over MSRP 4) Over MSRP with forced accessories
Yep....I'm sure enjoying this one.

I was on a list to get an MDX through Peyton Cramer. I had sent a deposit to Mike P, who I understood was a sales manager. I went to your company because I understood that you were not forcing add-ons.
After some time I could see that I was not going to get a car from PC. I went to Cerritos Acura and purchased the car.
I was buying from Mike, who seemed like a very nice guy. Later I found that Mike had left PC and add-ons are now part of the package.
Somewhere along the line you guys changed policies.
Why was that?
Here's my last reply to this thread:

People are willing to pay over sticker, regardless of method, because, at the moment, the Acura MDX is the most popular, best-equipped, best handling SUV on the market. Those happy customers are unable to wait, unwilling to wait, and ARE willing to pay a premium that THEY feel is justfied. That is a subjective matter, solely up to the buyer. There have been and will be those customers willing to follow market demand. And as long as dealer policy dictates market demand, there will be one.

Try finding a NEW 360 Modena Spyder for MSRP at a Southern California dealer, a NEW BMW Z8, a NEW Subaru WRX, or even Acura's own blessed NSX. Not impossible, just unlikely. These are premium vehicles that because of pressing market demand, like the MDX, will enjoy phenomenal resale value, and terrific lease residuals. Enjoy your MDX. And I have two more Touring arriving next week! Make mine Mahogany. Cheers.

You say that you will no longer respond to this thread. Does that mean you will not be answering my question as to why Peyton Cramer changed their selling practices.
The reason I first went to PC is because of a referral from a happy customer. They purchased witout add-ons.
Just curious.
I understand people will pay over cost because of supply and demand. The question is, will they return for another car? I wouldn't. Dealers are so shortsighted regarding this issue. Most do not want to build a base of loyal buyers.
I have purchased 2 Acura's from Cerritos, 1993 Legend and 2001 MDX. I would have purchased my wife's 1999 TL from them but, the car was scarce and I had to buy wherever I could find one. Turned out to be Thomas Acura.
I was treated VERY WELL by Cerritos and would purchase again from them. They know how to build a long term relationship and not gouge their customers.
Good thing that was his last post, or I was going to ask him list the actual profit made on one of his MDXs with forced options. Including markup and holdback it has to be near $6K on a $41K vehicle.

So people in SoCal are just screwed overall? They alread ypay too much for homes, electricity, and gas, so let's screw them on a vehicle as well? You draw more bees with honey...;)

Good luck BSB, not on this board!
Well, that was certainly a nice rationale from one of the "most honest and helpful" car salesmen the world has seen. :(

Unfortunately, I am sure you would agree with me, he can "get away with it" for 2 reasons:

1. There are suckers everywhere! (I do not mean to use this word in a rude offensive way, though) Even among us, there are members "who saw one" and could not say "NO" to a 2k markup! Or others, who think they got a great deal by paying 1K off MSRP but a sh*tload extra for inflated options for a USED!!! MDX with almost 2000 test-drive miles! And the list goes on and on.

2. Acura Corporate who is NOT controlling such behavior of its dealers. (BTW, with all the "hype" about dealer surveys did anyone see any results yet? Bad dealerships continue to get their MDX allotment no matter what!)

At this point in time, the only MDXs "available" should be failed financing or a customer pulling out of the deal. (multiple deposits, etc.) Even then, HONEST dealers should offer the car to the next person on their waiting lists and not sell one "on the black market"

I already sent to Acura an angry letter where, among other things, I stated that I will never again consider myself nor suggest to any of my friends another Acura when shopping for a LUXURY car. I do not want to deal with scumbags for my own money!

I almost feel sorry for the MDX :) that it was born to such a lousy "parent"

And, lastly, since I was refered to as "... a person from NY... who says MDX are available...", my knowledge of the availability (not vast, of course, but "incidental") comes from other members' posts about several dealerships in Arizona and other neighboring to Ca states.

Guys, how long do you think it will be before PCB sells those cars? Oh, I see another sucker coming in! :(
