I have had on a couple occasions, normally during a nap or when trying to go back to sleep in the morning a strange, and scary, sensation that I am mentally awake, but physically asleep. It has only happened a couple times, partially because I try to keep it from happening. When it has happened I feel as though I am drifting deep into rest and then I decide to move but I can not. I think I am breathing ok but I can not force a breath nor can I speak.
I am sure this only lasts a second but it seems at time to be far too long.
In searching the web I generally find a relationship to "spiritual" explanations such as "astral body splits from our physical body". which I think could be better described by saying the cognitive thought process splits from our motor control center. (In other words it is all in the mind)
Anybody else had anything like this? |

I have in the past. Mostly when I was a lot younger. It is apparently not that rare. Not sure how to characterize it in such a way as to get sufficient information.

I heard that is the devil holding you down. I had that a couple of times. It is freaky.

I know that is a medical condition, it seems like you "stuck" between conscience and deep sleep. I read into because I have bouts of insomnia.

I had these on several occasions when I was around 20. I would be able to move a finger or foot and that was it. I would just shake the foot for what seemed ever until my body would snap out of it.
