Some stupid !@#$% made a dent in my X at parking lot. I didn’t even notice until today. I think it would have happened while I was at work.
Please have a look at the pic and let me know if I should fix it or claim the insurance. Hope this will be covered under collision and won’t affect my insurance payment.
Please let me know approximately how much it costs and should I claim insurance. I have $100 deductible for collision.
Thanks.. |

Nasty one there maransm
Don't think the BSM's would have withstood that. The person who did that knew they did it and were too chicken to leave you a note.
As to cost of repair, I couldn't hazard aguess, but would a new door be an option? Keep us posted, Good Luck! |

Sorry to see that maransm but I would go with the insurance claim. With that much damage it will probably run around $800 or more to repair correctly.

$100 deductible.....definately claim it. I'm sure it will cost a shop more than $100 to fix that. Most places will give you a free estimate if you want to make sure.
Since you are not at fault your insurance "step" will not be increased. If you have too many instances where you are claiming things without having soemone to blame your ins. co will probably dump you. But you should be all set. |

| Sorry to hear about your accident, looks like more than a bumper hit you. Almosts look like a pole hit you or something. |

maransm,
Sorry to hear about your misfortune. That dent sure looks bad. I don't think a new door will be necessary. A good auto body shop should be able to repair it. Definitely claim this under your Comphrensive Insurance. Good luck.:29: |

Sorry to see the damage. I had similar damage on my other car's door many year ago.
With 100 deduction, you definitely need to claim it. Make sure go to the best bodyshop you can find.
In my case, the shop fixed it but the car was never the same. The wind noise is noticable when the car ran faster than 65 MPH. I really hated it but got no choice. Everytime the door is damaged, make sure you check the wind noise after it is fixed. |

If you go the insurance route it would pay under Comprehensive and NOT Collision.
PS: You may want to check with the owner of the parking lot and see if they have any surveliance cameras. This is becoming increasingly popular nowadays. |

Thank you so much for all the information. It sounds like I should go with the insurance.. I dont want to choose the one AllState is asking me to go since I dont know their work. I checked with the locak Acura dealer and they refered couple of places.
Let me take an estimation and let you all know the progress as it goes.
Thanks for great help and support. |

For what it's worth, ask the shops that Acura recommended if they're an approved Allstate shop. Many are and if they work often with the dealer, you won't have a problem. Just cause they recommended one shop your not familiar with, doesn't mean there aren't others you can choose that are Allstate approved.
I've had work done on 2 different cars; one Acura (Integra) done by body shop at an dealer affiliated non-Acura (Chevy) shop, and one Infiniti (G20) done by independent shop that does lots of work for the local Infiniti dealer and both times (actually 2x for the Integra), the work was superb and guaranteed by Allstate.
cheers,

| I would claim it w/ your insurance. Most bodyshops will cover your deductible and you don't have to pay anything, mine was even $250.00. Another thing, don't worry about your insurance, your monthly won't go up. |

I seriously doubt this will be a comprehensive claim. Any other contact with an auto or another vehicle is collision, whether the car is moving or not. You could argue it wasn't collision with another auto, but I don't think you'll win this one.
File your claim. I guarantee you're talking $800-$1000 to fix it, if not more.
On a different matter, you're paying some expensive insurance premiums to carry $100 ded on collision. I'd highly recommend you raise this. At the minimum, ask your agent to quote you the difference in premiums for the various deductibles.
Good luck with the repair.
P.S. You don't HAVE to go where the insurance company recommends. It's simply a suggestion/recommendation. If you don't like the place they are sending you, go someplace different. |

I went to Allstate yesterday to get assessment and they estimated for $987.56. They told me that the body shop need to replace the metal sheet of the door (Acura Part # 67611S3VA00ZZ) and re-paint the right side of the car to match the current paint. I thought they might get the metal sheet in silver color, but seems like they will have to get a sheet and paint it themselves.
Is there any way I can avoid this paint job by replacing the door itself? I heard that if you re-paint, the resale value would go down. Even though I have no plans to sell the car for next 5 years, I would like to avoid the paint job as much as possible if I can.
Does Acura sell the painted door (silver) as a whole so that I can just replace it with the new one? If so, how much does it cost?
Greg, Yes, I am planning to increase my deductible to $250 some time next month when my present policy expires and also need to switch my motorcycle policy from Progressive. Thanks for your suggestion. |

All replacement sheet metal parts have to be painted to match the color of the car. Think about how much inventory a place would have to carry if they kept pre-painted parts in stock. If your body shop is good, you'll never be able to tell the difference. |

| I spoke with one friend of mine who has a body shop. He says whenever a body job is needed, repaint is necessary to blend the fixed part with the neighbor parts. Keep in mind, the color of the car fades regardless what the original color is. Therefore I hope you have an excellent body shop who can assure the door fit tight as origininal state. In my case, the door hissed when running at higher 70 MPH that really pissed me off. That car was eventually gone total and I purchased the X using the insurance payment. For the side note, X cannot match the quietness that Lexus RX offers. |

Thanks for the info. Oh.. thats interesting, Did your insurance company paid for replacing the car because of hissed noice? I didnt know insurance would "replace" the car for such problems. Which year/model did you have earlier? Did you get this using "collision coverage? Did your premium went up after this claim? |
