Just curious how long you guys/gals did your research before proceeding with the purchase?

1-4 weeks.

I had one on order when the MDX first came out and decided I could not wait the 6 or 7 months for the privilege of buying at list (or more)! Now I am ready to get back in the game and after much research, I like the MDX proposition the best but I have been holding off the commitment because (i) my family thinks it is a little too big - this will be my vehicle though and (ii) gas prices. I still think it will be the MDX although, to be honest, I am waiting to see the NY Auto show preview of the RL.

I did quite a bit of research for a couple months before I found this forum back in 2001 & gathered more data here before making the decison to buy.

I think anyone should thoroughly research any vehicle and this forum and those like it are an excellent source of data

I also had a deposit down on one back in 2001. The dealership even called me and offered one on the floor that another buyer had decided not to get. I bought our Saab wagon instead because of significant military discounts they were running at the time.

Our first child, second dog, two moves, and three years later I finally decided it was time to get the MDX.

It is interesting.. there appear to be a number of MDXers who also have an affinity for Saabs. You and I are among them and I've seen others on the site. I went to a 9-5 as well when I decided to get my deposit back on the '01 MDX.

I threw a post into the other autos section about the same topic but got only one reply. I think if Saab had a SUV as good as the MDX I would have gone with it, but I worry that the 9-7 will be a failure since it's being based on the trailblazer platform. plus I didn't want to wait another year or two for it to come out.

When it comes time to replace the wagon I'll probably shop around all the current sport sedans and wagons, but I have really enjoyed the Saabs I have owned.

As I've detailed in other threads it took me 4 years to get one. It really wasn't because I couldn't decide or waited for the next model, it was always that something came up when I was ready to buy. So during the 4 year research project I still did not see anything that fit my needs better than the MDX. :29: While not a perfect vehicle, and none are IMHO, it is still the best value in the SUV market.

I just hope I can get 8-10 years of use out of it since I didn't lease---oops that is another thread. :D
