I've noticed since the back license plate only has two screws, the bottom half of the plate likes to freely vibrate and knock back and forth on the car as I'm going over rough roads (everywhere it seems).
I checked, and it already has padding where it hits back and forth, but is there anyway to keep the plate more stuck down? I finally realized this is where the noise is coming from, for whenever I close my hatch, the plate knocks against the car and makes the same noise.
Any ideas and has anyone else noticed this? |

I noticed the same problem on my 04 X. To remedy the issue, I purchased some felt pads and affixed them to the back of the license plate. PROBLEM SOLVED!!
I purchased the felt pads at a local hobby store. |

Or a strip of Velcro loop--good padding, durable, and sticky. I always keep some around for any number of uses.
Someone else's good idea: Use a piece of Velcro loop under the ignition switch to keep keys from rattling against the steering column. |

You could also use adhesive weatherstripping. You can find this at any hardware store, Home Deopt, Lowe's etc. Works well for this purpose...

| I just used two sided tape--cheap and easy, just like me. That seemed to fix it. |

| 3M double sided tape seems to be the best solution. |

I have a pretty heavy chrome frame around my rear plate so I went over board on the "operation silence the plate for good".
First I used thick rubber washers between the MDX and the plate, the plate and the frame, and finally the frame and the screws.
Next I got some of that "magnetic sheet" stuff that is sticky on one side and a rubberized magnet on the other. I think it is mostly sold in sizes for turning business cards into fridge magnetics. I got tow pieces each big enough for three cards and stuck 'em to the back of the plate. This adds mass to damp the the 'rattle' and also makes the lower edge of the plate "atttracked" to the MDX so it is not wobbly.
Finally I got the heavy "EPM" stick-on weatherstripping and stuck it on about five different points of the frame/plate.
I can now drive over cobblestones and not hear the license plate! |

| I haven't done anything, and it doesn't vibrate at all. The two large foam pieces push the tag out enough and it sits firm. |

| Tear off a piece of a sponge and shove it between the plate and the panel. Works like a charm, costs nothing, no sticky mess, and leaves no marks. |

| Okay this poses another question how many of us actually remove the plates to wash under it? |

Now that you mention it, I'm afraid to look. I'll leave that for the Concours competition at the next MDX National Meet. |

I had the rattle, but it was due to the licence plate cover (Dealership insignia) vibrating against the licence plate. I put 3M double sided tape on the back of the Licence plate cover and pressed the licence plate to it before re-attaching both the back of the X. No problem since, but I do notice when I close the back hatch with a little more vigor the plate and cover will make some noise presumably against the sheet metal.
And nope, I spent 3 hours hand washing and waxing the X on the weekend and was too lasy to take the plate off... Doh! |

I went to Home Depot and bought the "felt/spongie one-sided tape cushions" that go on the bottom of you furniture/chairs so they don't scratch the hardwood floor.
They work great, also at a Dollar store, I saw some smaller ones that go on your kitchen cupboards, so the doors don't bang when closing, they work even better, as they are smaller and you can put them all around the plate/frame.
just noticed, lawboy2, did the same. |

| I had some extra Dynamat from my speaker install. I put that on the back of the plate and around my plate frame. Works great! |

My MB S-class uses 4 screws to secure the rear license plate and has no vibration problem. I notice this is the case with all MB vehicles including the entry level C-class.
Shame on Acura on saving 2 screws. |

| I have a form strip underneath my plate but I have a heavy gold/glass plate frame. When closing the trunk lid I always push down on the glass cover of the plate frame to avoid it swinging (and ripping off). |
