I've had the Mahogany touch up paint on back order since December... and still no sign of it on the horizon... I got a couple of small scratches to my driver side door in a Ralph's parking lot back in December when my car was one month old.... Tim - any knowledge of when this may become available?

Thanks.

When I picked up my ss the paint was out of stock that was on 4/13/01.Two weeks later I was told it is back ordered until 6/30/01.Hope this helps a little. The parts dept should be able to give you an update.
I also tried to get some this week at my MDX delivery and they said they had no idea when they would get some in at dealer. 1st model year jitters I guess.
Its just paint -- wonder what the big deal is. Does anyone know if it is simply on backorder for various dealers because demand is much greater than supply or is it hasn't shipped to any dealer yet.

I seem to believe it has to be the later as with less than 40,000 MDX's produced, how hard it it to make 80,000 little paint jars? I am sure when they produce this paint they don't do it in "little" batches. They must make thousands of gallons of it in one production run and it would only take a few hundred (313 to be exact if a touch up paint "jar" is 1 fluid oz) gallons to fill 80,000 touch up paint jars.

Seems fishy to me -- Am I missing something here? Anyone here know anything about auto paint production? The only thing I can think of is that touch up paint is totally different than the paint they apply at the factory. If this is the case, perhaps a supply chain problem has occured finding a touch up paint manufacturer that can match the production paint exactly.

Don't know -- Hopefully somebody on this site is all knowing about paint production! It would surprise me after reading some of the experts on other issues (gas production, fluid dynamics, etc.)

Has any checked if paint is available for the Odyssey or the TL?

Pretty sure it's the same stuff.
I'll check it on Monday. The last I heard when I contacted Acura on this they told me late March....hmmmm, come to think of it, I'm not sure I ever got any. The dealers should have SS, though (mdxwannabe).

If I can find some for you guys, I'm going to just absorb the ORM-D costs and send it to you. If you don't hear back from me by Monday afternoon, drop me an email or give me a call.

PS- the SS is very similar to the TL and Ody colors, but not exactly the same. And mahogany is an MDX exclusive (which I love!).
When I went in to get my Thud fixed, I asked about a bottle of touchup for MesaBeige. They didn't have it in stock, but I prepaid and the parts dept sent it to me with free shipping within a week!
I just got off the phone with corporate HQ, and they told me that the mahogany touch up paint won't be available until 6/30, so mdxwannabe is right.

They did tell me one thing though, did you know that the original name for the color was deep burgandy metallic?

At least I got something of interest for my dime......

Ghost,
As soon as I read Tim's post I knew one from you would follow shortly. However, you are still not vindicated because the color is really Tootsie Roll but Acura had to euphemize it to Mahogany Pearl. Just like your color is Milk Truck Metallic that they euphemized to Starlight Silver.:D:D

The reason for the run on SS touch up paint is not us Mahoganites but the American Legion wanting to touch up flag poles in preparation for Memorial Day.:D:D
