Photoshop Pros... want to give this a shot? - Click HERE for Original Thread

I was looking at my wife's A4 Avant last night and decided the molding would look awesome on the MDX. The moldings are color keyed, well placed and a good size (2.5" W x 3/8" H). I was hoping some Photoshop pro would want to give "installing" them a try to see how they looked. For reference, I've included an A4 Avant pic (not my wife's) and the link for Mike's MDX with the installed color keyed moldings. They look to be about 1" wide. My thanks in advance to anyone worthy.

http://www.acuramdx.org/forums/show...p?threadid=1041

Looks good

Gave it a try to Wolverine's Black and Mike's Mesa. I agree, the thicker looks much better. And since you used a tricked out Avant, I lowered Wolverine's MDX!

I also looked at thicker moldings, Check out Isuzu Rodeo's thick molding: http://www.drewparts.com/Products.asp?ParentID=8857 I've seen these on a Rodeo and they look very good. ( The link doesn't do them justice.) If you paint these, they may work nicely. Keep your eyes peeled for late model Rodeo's, not many have these. I'm leaning towards the bare naked look-no moldings for now.

ScottyB, here's a more equal picture to yours above - with the digital molding.

Yeah... I like the think molding. Having a black MDX, I really like the way it looks on both Wolverine's & the SEMA (?) MDX. I read somewhere that the SEMA MDX was actually green, but it looks black to me. I'm not big into the lowering of the truck, but I do like the way the wheel flares & molding look with matched paint. I'm going to have to start hunting for similar molding.

Again, Thanks 7plus... seeing it reinforces the mind's eye!
Ya, I'd never lower my MDX or any SUV for that matter. But it sure is fun to see what it looks like! (Someday, someone will though.) I also think thick looks much much better. If you can find some like the above Avant or if you can alter Audi's, that would look nice. Post pictures when you get them.
I would think between you out in CA & me in South Florida, 1 of us will see a lowered MDX before too long. Then again, maybe it will be the Honda version.

I would love to be able to use the A4's molding on the MDX, but the A4 has a body shape that the molding is installed along. It really looks sharp, even the picture doesn't do it justice. Then again, I'm quite partial to the A4, it's a helluva car. I'm always pleased when my wife lets me drive it. Before I got the MDX, I was leaning toward another A4, but it's too small for the family. Now, I love my MDX so much, I don't miss the sports car at all.

If I turn something up, I'll certainly let you know. I'm going to do some hunting...
My other car IS an A4 too! A 96 quattro to be exact. 2 completely different vehicles. Reason we got the MDX - A4 is too small for the growing family! What a quo-winky-dink!

PS Your A4 better not be white.

Notice that the Sema car has the fender flares which help balance and support the thinker molding. This is exactly what I am planning to do with my Chariot. The flares are being painted and due back at the end of the week. After that, I'll search for color keyed molding to balance it. Plus...will probably add chrome/or brushed chrome side steps. All in all a beefier look and parking lot worthy (maybe)
Hey 7plus your work is incredible, wish I knew how to do that stuff. Could you put these rims on any MDX picture.
I'm thinking of purchasing.

Thanks

I'm anxious to see the painted flares... I think the beefy look with nice moldings will really add to the MDX. You'll be posting pics as you go, right?

White it is! Being an Avant, it's quattro as well. Of course living in Miami, the A4 has really helped in the winter! We actually had a couple of bad rainstorms last year that my wife was convinced a lesser car would not have made it through. She was in water half way up her doors, other people stuck left and right and her A4 just kept on cooking. It's amazing how confident you feel driving the A4 during inclement weather... I can only imagine it in the snow. Have you had the pleasure? Our A4 is a 1.8t(non-chipped), yours?

I'll post pics after the flares are painted and installed. If they finish with the flares this week, I'll install them this weekend. It will take a little time to get the proper molding. I'll probably take it to a few custom shops. I might find some molding from other auto/truck manufactures that could be sized down and painted to fit the MDX. Either way...I'll keep you posted.
When I have some time - I think I can do it to the sema picture. I'll post it here since it is called a photoshop thread!
Thanks 7plus, only when you have time. I appreciate it. I hope you enjoy doing it and it is not a chore. If so please don't worry about it.

Thanks

5 speed 2.8 not chipped (yet). The V6 is extemely smooth and quiet. CONFIDENT is the key word here. Limited only by the tires. Thinking about 18" rims for this slot car. Yes did take it to the snow and felt like the snow wasn't even there, driving moderately. When I pushed it (within reason), the control was amazing! Like I had a rudder slicing through the snow. Another reason we have this car, "The Best Looking Car" we ever owned. The MDX "The Best Looking SUV" PERIOD! They make a very sexy couple.

Very nice! I love the wheels on the 2.8, almost as much as the S4's. I have to agree that the A4 is one of the Best Looking cars on the road. I was blown away when I first drove ours... awesome, like I had never experienced in a car. And now we have the Best Looking SUV as well! As our lease comes to a close on the A4, I'll think about buying it. If I do, I'll likely chip it at that time, and put some better rubber on it. Otherwise, I love it as it is.

BTW... the wheels on the SEMA truck look very nice!
Once again your work is awsome. I am convinced now that these will be the wheels for the MDX. Convincing the wife should be a lot easier as well now that I can show her the picture you did. Thanks again you rock!

ScottyB ,

I will agree with the inclimate weather statement your wife made especially between 595 and arvida parkway on I75 in a downpour. The X handles heavy rain fairly well. Not the best I have experienced, but still good. You can sure feel the VTM kick in at times on the highway when there is a couple inches of water on the road.

To all,

I Love all the digital images everyone has made, I printed most of them and have them in my office at work .. of course everyone thinks im obsessed with this vehicle. The ones that people are always commenting on are the convertible X ( looks like cabriolet ) and the low rider  The X Club has very creative people :D

TECK!
NaNaLi
Sully,
That is a very nice wheel. Please post a pic once you have them on. Does anyone know the correct wheel offset? So the tires won't rub anywhere. If one is thinking of putting 18X8 wheels, what is the right offset.
NaNaLi
You mind doing another set of wheels? Please go to site below and plug in wheels called Baltic Hyper Silver & the Atix-5 Hyper Silver.
Thanks much

bhaycraft - The chrome touring rims look good on any of the X's Go for it!

dromayn your number is next. When I get some time, I'll work on yours.

Dubbed once again. I match DubbedSS's 20's so this would be what these Momo's would look like at 20's

Well the chrome wheels really look sharp I just wish I had a better picture of a Redrock Pearl MDX to use as that is kind of a poor picture.

Thanks

7Plus, you're the man!!! the Silver X' looks awesome!!! now i am really decided in getting a wheel and tire upgrade....you are an asset to this org man...we are greatful to have you here...again thanks a lot.

7plus - nice work.

Dubbed - I prefer those prospective 22inchers to your current set. But aren't 22inchers gonna rattle the teeth right outta your head?
DubbedSSmdx
7plus you are the man!!! ...Worm as for 22's I don't even think it's possible at this moment... a lot of custom work would be needed etc; to do it correctly... just an idea at present!!?!?!

Does this look Redrock Pearl? Actually, since I did the color change once, I can do just about any color now. Anyone want to see yellow or pink or orange?

Dubbed-sorry your beautiful X has turned into my Frankenstein :D
bhaycraft
Hey 7Plus here are some PICS of the other Redrock X's I found on this site, unfortunately I don't have mine yet but maybe next week if all goes well.
bhaycraft
I am also considering the Moda R6 as well
bhaycraft
Hey Dubbed,

If you want some of the best looking wheels to go on the MDX and price is no objec, get the custom Davin wheels with the spinning centers now they give new meaning to Dubbs or wheels for that matter. I saw some the other day in Tampa,FL on a Jaguar 20's they just drew my eye to them because of the spinning centers. You can check them out at www.davinwheels.com

Here's one more. Depending on the picture, that quality goes down each time it is resaved. As you can see, quality of these pics kind of suck. When I work on Dubbeds photos, they are good quality, but also big file sized too.

If you can, get the chrome touring rims. They look great!
DubbedSSmdx
7 Plus!

how about seeing the MDX in the BLUE that the BMW 4.6is X5 comes in?!?!?! Also can you try photochoping these other wheels on there??!?!?! Thanks man! you're the greatest!
bhaycraft
Those wheels you did this time don't look quite right they look really fuzzy and almost gold tone, but I guess I get the idea. I do appreciate what ya did. I am still torn between getting my touring rims chromed and I have found only one place in the US that will give you a decent warranty on there work( like 4 years) or just getting the BBS Moda R6's mounted with the Pirrelli Scorpion wheels like these on Redrock of course. If I do decide on these I might sell my Touring wheels and tires on here.

Yo D,
Here it is. The picture angle of some of the rims make it tough to match up to some of the pictures. This is the best I could do (without going through 100's of images). It didn't work very well on the side view image of your ride.

For the courtesy of others and me, you gotta let us know the name and company of these awesome rims you find, and where you find them.

7Plus:

Thanks again bud, you have too much skill!!! An asset to the forum without doubt!

As for the wheels:

The five star is called Britane by Niche
The wide six blade is called RT Rhelin by RT Wheels
The thin seven blade is called X-Tek by Genx Wheels (my favorite!)

As for the place to get these at i suggest Superbuytires!!! FYI: it's a pain to find 22's that will fit for the MDX. The MDX requires a wheel with a FWD type offset (ie: 30mm to 40mm) and 22's now aren't made that way!!?!?!? Sighs... Twenty's are nice for now though. However, if anyone has more info on 22's for the MDX, let me know!

Keep MDXin' Bretheren!

This is actually the first time I have ever posted to any type of forum - have always just read what others say. Anyway, purchased and MDX a couple weeks ago after reading so many good things about it and really enjoy the photos of what you can do. I went out right away and added an amp and woofers to this pitiful (base level) stereo but really enjoy the chrome wheels and will have to explore. Keep the great pics coming!

try www.rimshop.com thier prices are like @ least $1000 cheaper.... for the same rims with tires... but for pics superbuytires is great...
Acura4Life
Hey all...checking out these great pic's and I have to say that I am considering buying new wheels and tires for my MDX, at least 20's.

My question is:

Can you place 22 inch wheels on the MDX without any problems?
I was surfin' in www.superbuytires.com and I noticed they have 22 inch wheels listed as a possible option for the Acura MDX. I have not spoken with Acura about this yet.

Everyone's thoughts?

mymdxiscoming
you can definitelly do it... but i think it may require a few modifications... but if you do decide to buy... buy from www.rimshop.com you'll save lots of $$....
DubbedSSmdx
Hey Acura4Life,

Good luck tryin to find 22's for the MDX. I've been doing research for a while now and it comes down to this. They don't make 22's with a front wheel drive offset. The closets they make to the offset we need is a 20mm offset give or take. I have found some people who will customize the wheel to give me a 38 or even a 40mm offset with a 22 but there are no gaurantee's on the fitment... So, if you find any more information please let us know!!!!

Keep MDXin' Fellas!

I'll report back with my results.

hey acura4life let me know what happens ....
MK23666
You have got skills. I was wondering tho if you could do me something different?

What would an Acura RL look like if it were raised off the ground a few inches, the front hood shortened a bit for a blunter look and the rear pillar stretched further to the rear and narrowed so as to create a full sized SUV out of it? The Acura site doesn't have any good pics of the RL so I'm gonna go check out the Japanese Honda site for some under the name Legend ... Oh well that didn't pan out too good either.

Maybe it would be easier still to take a picture of a Honda Pilot and put the RL's chrome grill, headlights and foglights on it. well, I hope you can still help me out.

Well, by following your instructions above, it looks like a BMW/MDX/PILOT/MB. (You can see the RL in the reflection in the water)

7Plus can you put these on my MDX in 22's when you get the chance... i'm not sure if i like these or not... need your expertise... thanks bud!!!??!?!
ATxMDX
Here in South Texas there are plenty of ballerzz with 22's

True you need a FWD offset , and they make'em!!
lowenhart, and a few others

The closest fit and the best fit between 20", 21", and 22" is the 22's.
The idea is to:

1: not having that nasty gap between the low profile tire and the fender well.

2: not messing up your MPG, Speedometer, and odometer by getting a bigger tire/ rim. The most important thing is Diameter.

The best fit are 22's only 7/10" of an inch diff.. vurtally no change in diameter the Acura stock tire is 235/65/r17 and has 29" diameter, and 22's with a 285/30/ R22 tire made by GoodYear has a 28.7" diameter . (discount tires(tires.com) can order them from Arizona)..

good luck with all that!! Awesome Pics / good idea's!
