| Is this normal for the MDX ? Is it simply an overflow tank and not part of the flow through a closed system ? My last 3 cars have had pressurized, full tanks. |

No it is not normal, there should be fluid in there. Either fill it up yourself or ask the dealer to pressure test the system for you. |

| I should have pointed out too, I've only had the car for 2 weeks. Why didn't they catch that on their pre-delivery inspection list ? Not that I put a lot of faith in that thing anyway but gosh, that's pretty easy to see. |

nightguy,
** The overflow resevoir should have fluid. The bottle is marked with a line (memory says that it is the "cold check" level). I am sure that the owner's manual discusses this as well.
** The overflow resevoir is not pressurized. When hot, fluid from radiator may flow into resevoir (coolant expands beyond radiator capacity). As radiator cools, coolant in radiator contracts and vaccum in radiator will "suck" coolant back in from resevoir.
** As to the new car prep, yup they SHOULD HAVE CHECKED. That said, are you terribly surprised? They probably didn't put the plugs in the lower frame rails either (shipping tie down points that should be plugged before delivery).
You might want to take the MDX back and ask them to perform the pre-delivery that they were supposed to do |

Is that rail plug on the list ? Is it something I can see easily if I lean under the car ?
Why do I have a feeling I might have a meltdown when I get home ?I've always worked on my cars, but this one was going to be the "hands-off" car. I guess I'd better order some oil filters from Tim. |

nightguy,
This is from memory so please forgive me if I error (haven't needed to check since January of 2002 and yes our plugs were missing):
There are two oval holes (as I remember, maybe only 1 but I remember 2) in left and right frame rails just forward of the rear wheels. The holes are not on the bottom of the rails, rather, they are on the inside "side" of the rails.
You might want to look in the glovebox (that is where I found our hole plugs!!). They were in a little clear baggie for the pre-delivery guy to just pop into the frame rails. Takes a whole 1 minute per side (that includes getting down on the ground, popping in the plugs and standing back up!!).
Hope this helps.
Anyone who remembers better, pls don't hesitate to correct any miss-statements I have made |

| Is this it ? There are about 3 of these things (on the right) in front of the rear wheels. There are also some larger plugs near the front wheels but nothing that's oval. Some good news though. They at least had it up on the lift. I can see where some of the coating rubbed off the lift points. The bad news is that they had it on the lift. Some of the coating rubbed off the lift points. I think they sell that stuff in a can. |
