Add me to the short list of owners with melting taillights.

Our 2001 MDX was brought to the dealer for service at around 49,000 miles and the service person noticed the taillights were melting near the small round "medallion" portion in the center. He stated that this was a known issue and would order them and let us know when they were in.

4 weeks and 1200 miles later, no call. Gave them a shout, and not only was the person who ordered them gone, but there was a brief discussion as to whether or not they would be replaced, as the car was now out of warranty. The service manager agreed to replace them as a courtesy, and the work was carried out.

Doing searches, I only saw two or three other MDX's with melting tailights. Anyone know the details of this problem?

No, I guess we know about it now. It would seem if the bulbs were too warm for the plastic, it would not take 49,000 miles to show up.

I had the same problem on my '02 and I only have 18000 miles on mine..

The dealer replaced them no problem.

I had noticed a little warping much earlier (probably after we owned the car for about 1 year).

I hadn't paid attention to it lately. The MDX is my wife's car, and she usually washes it (or, should I say, takes it to the drive through car wash).

The round parts in the center had gotten fairly messed up, with actual holes melted completely through.
