My new MDX Touring has about 2300 miles. Weather here in Florida has been superb, 75-80 every day. Have been driving without AC, moonroof open. Been driving primariy on interstates, maybe 10% in town. I normally drive 75-80, with cruise control on, still averaging over 22 MPG. I have absolutely no complaints, glad that I went for the MDX.

WOW! 22mpg sounds great to me. I drive primarily in the city though, so that makes a big difference. Still, nice to know that if I go on some road trips the mileage should be significantly better. I guess I have noticed better mileage on trips though, I'll have to pay closer attention next time.

Q: What kind of gas are you running in your MDX to get such great gas mileage?;)

We just got back from a trip from Sacramento to Boise Idaho and back. Most of the trip was on I-80 and we averaged 75-80 mph. We averaged 25 mpg. We used 91 octane the entire trip. I played around by drafting behind a semi and got it up to 28.

I reset the mpg before we left Sacramento and when we got back home it was at 25mpg. Now it's back to 18 mpg for driving around Sacramento.

Its because he has the AC off. Just wait till the summer rolls in and that HUMIDITY starts to kill ya and you'll be turning on the AC and loosing that temporary great gas mileage ! :1:

Yes - I got 23.3 miles on a highway trip (about 212 miles). I didn't reset meter and when I got back (in very heavy traffic), it came down to 22.2mpg. SO got 424 miles before refueling my tank. I am happy with this type of mileage. I use 93 Octane gas from Mobil or Exxon.

Lovin' it.

Solid
I averaged 19-22 miles when I'm on 5-20 engine oil but w/ 5-30, I averaged 17-19 miles. What a difference... but I guess I'll stay w/ 5-30 for better engine protection.

I thought that I make this quick post:

I have a '02 touring MDX with approximately 45,000 mile (yes I do a lot of driving). Anyway, occassionally I have to drive to North Jersey and Pittsburgh. On flat, highways with cruise control on I am definitely getting more than 22 MPG, and at times have hit 26 MPG. On hilly roads, the MPG does drop, but even going to Pittsburgh going over mountains MPG was pretty good, averaged over 24 MPG.

City/local MPG is definitely worse and could be better. Averaging somewhere between 12-15 mpg.

With the exception of city driving, I have not noticed a difference in MPG when driving in the summer with the A/C on. I normally get 23 to 26 MPG on all highway driving but rarely go faster than 70. The speed limit on the freeways in Oregon is 65 and on many of the two lane highways I drive on it is 55. I usually set the cruise at 70 on freeways and 62 when the limit is 55.
inky
5w20 is not so efficient (ie reduced drag) to give 2-3 mpg. Conventional to conventional 20 vs 30 perhaps .4-.5 mpg. I use amsoil 0w30 and have used mobil 1 0w20. the amsoil is slightly better and a superior product. I managed 28 mpg over 30 miles to work this am. Flat, no wind, 61 mph, no AC and steady expressway. Real trips on highway with usual AC use nets 23-24. Around town in the teens.
I am impressed with MDX ability to get 28 at 60 mph. Low cd and 5th gear are the key. Try that with a HEMI! Those saps get 11 mpg no matter what. How silly.
PS my wife never gets better than 20 overall. She is a lead foot and believes you are either braking hard or accelerating hard.rrrrrrrrrrrr
