I couldnt believe when I called my Insurance Company Geico and asked for a qoute on insuring the MDX. they told me $1250 for the year. Right now, I have a 98 Subaru Forester and I am paying $1650 for the year.

The Subaru had a pretty good safety rating is the MDX that much better?

One other thing my insurance company informed me of:

They will pick up the extended warranty on the MDX for $14 a month. So instead of purchasing the extended warranty through Acura you can pay Geico an extra $14 per month and they will pick up the bumper to bumper.

I need to find out though if this is something I can add later or if I need to start paying the $14 right off that bat - in that case it may not be worth it.

Anybody use gieco, anybody get the extended warranty coverage through them?

You have to purchase the extended warranty from the beggining. I had but by the time I reached the the mileage on the car to use it I had switch insurance carriers.

My insurance on my 03 MDX is $850 a year but I don't use GEICO and they are a little higher in my case. Surpirsing the 04 TL's rate is about the same as the X's, would have thought it would have been higher.

Wow! We are taking of $1500 (approx). What? Do we have a few tickets in here ? Just kidding :)

I was with Geico...Geico is very good service wise. The benefit of Geico is only when you stick with them for a long period of time they tend to bring down the premium. They also have the 5 year "great" benefit.

I , like a fool (I am one!), changed my provider 3 times in the last 3 years. Finally when I bought my MDX 10 days back I realized AAA members had a good deal on insurance. AAA has a tie-up with Travellers Insurance (CitiGroup - Good rating), which I hear is decent enough but not like "outta-d-world"!

I used to pay $1100 to Geico (100/300/100) for my 2001 Honda Accord. I now pay $750 (6 mths) for both vehicles together, which means it's 1500$ for both vehicles together. Which is pretty good IMO.

Try Travellers if you wish...Just a suggestion

Cheers.

Fill in your location. Location, location, location..means a lot in real estate..but in the cost of insurance premiums too. As well as your age, marital status, etc. etc.
If you put in your location then other members near you can make direct comparisons.
Sorry to be so redundant.
Your quote is a bit higher than I pay in the central valley, CA with full coverage, only the one car.
One thing I remember about GEICO is they have you sign an agreement that you do not use a radar detector among other things. Not sure that's still true.

I have GEICO for my X and a 93 Camry with the mechanical breakdown insurance/multi-risk for the X or "extended warranty" as you call it. I pay about $838 every 6 months for both cars, $494 for the X; the breakdown insurance runs $42.60 every six months and it comes with a $250.00 deductible. You don't have to get the
multi-risk right away, but you have get it before 11 months and 11K miles. Some folks put on the mileage quick so you may just want to get it now. GEICO told me the multi-risk covers everything, including the NAV, so I feel comfortable having it. It's good for 7yrs/70,000 miles, so if I keep the X after 7 years I will have paid a little less than $600 for the coverage. Sounds a lot better than paying $1,400 to $1,600 up front for the dealer's or an after market extended warranty.

Here in VA, I'm paying $1050 per year for full coverage on a Honda and a MDX including extended warranty on both and towing. Geico is just great. Had them for 15 years now.

Sorry, I didnt post location.. I forget a lot of times that not everyone lives in New York.... :)

Everyone out of NY is paying pretty much what I consider "Dirt Cheap Insurance"

$1600 for Full Coverage is a decent deal in NY.. I have a perfect driving record - no accidents or tickets and both me and the wife are over 25... -- Just a little over but over....

So the $1250 qoute I got, coming from NY is an unbelievable deal... Maybe I should just set up a POBOX in one the cheaper states and get out of state dirt cheap insurance... --- probably not I think thats illegal :)

Anyways, from what I gather the extended warranty through gieco is a good deal.. If it it needs to be kicked by 11k that works for me, as im not huge on the mileage maybe 8k a year... Since it covers the navi too that makes that much better..

Thanks for your imput...

Forgot to mention I have 300/300/100 for bodily injury and property damage and 50/100 for uninsured/underinsured motorists. Need to have the higher coverages because I have umbrella insurance. If your cost of $1,600 has coverage at least that high or close to it, that is real good for NY. I know cause my brother lives in NJ and pays quite a bit for insurance.

Comparing what you pay for premiums without documenting coverages and deductibles is completely meaningless. Furthermore, driving experience, credit score, use, married, etc. all play a huge factor as well.

I wholeheartedly agree with your comments, I was just throwing in an additional factor. Yes there are all those issues affecting the cost, but I still say $1600 for a year's insurance is pretty darn good in NY. In addition, you have to take into account the company itself. The exact same factors allowing for Beenframed to get $1,600 with GEICO may result in a much higher premium with State Farm or Allstate, or a lower premium with someone else.

I have State Farm and pay about $1000 a year now. That's for a New York suburb. What part of NY are you in? I'd imagine the rates can fluctuate.
Blackura
Rates vary by ZIP code. I know that if I lived just an eighth of a mile down the road (in the next ZIP), my insurance would be cheaper.

I also heard on the radio this morning that some insurance companies are lowering rates for people with good credit scores and raising them for people with lower scores. They seem to have found some relationship between people with good credit and the cost of insurance claims. Interesting.

I'm located in Flushing NY... Near Shea Staduim.. The rates in this neck of the woods is considerably higher then in for instance upstate NY..

I feel so ripped off by Insurance Companies.. IN 10 years of driving I have never once made a claim against them - I've never even used the towing they usually throw in...

I wish they could base it on inidvidual performance.... I feel since I have a perfect record, no accidents and I've been with the same company for years..

They should recognize that and give me insurance for $400-$500 for the year..

A lot of people in NY abuse the system - staging phony accidents and making claims which in turn increase the rates for the average Joe...

A few weeks backs a whole ring was busted..It was the whole gang invloved... They'd get 2 people to stage a phony accident... then these people would go to the same medical clinic for diagnoses..... Doctor's would say this and that is wrong with each one.. and then send them right upstairs (in the same building) to the Lawyers who were involved in the scam... The lawyers would prep the accident victims and then sue the insurance company.. Everyone worked on the same page and they scored millions from the Insurance companies...

I guess I could always move.... :)

I live in a suburb of Philadelphia and pay about $1200 with State Farm (100/300/100) with full tort. This includes multi-vehicle and multi-line discounts. This rate dropped by ~$200 from a year ago along with some rate increases.

Location is definitely a big factor. Like Blackura stated, another factor is one's credit score listed by the credit reporting companies. From what I understand, the lower the credit score the higher the premium is likely to be. The relationship I believe is the ability pay the premium over time based on spending/repaying habits.

Thanx for the info on Gieco. I have always wondered about them. Can anyone share any claim experiences about Gieco?
y2ks2k
Figure this out, throught Geico and Progressive I have ahd quotes of about $850 to $1000 every 6 months. In all cases, I pay more for the mdx then I do for my Sti.

Jupiter,

The only time I had a claim with GEICO, they were the best. My wife was driving our Camry and a pail flew out of a truck in front of her and hit the top of her roof. We filed a comprehensive claim and had the car repaired and painted at a place of our choosing. I believe the total bill was around $600, our deductible was $250, GEICO paid the difference of $350 no problem. I have also notified them when I have had accidents caused by others, they will provide you legal assistance if needed. Example, in Nevada if you have an accident in a parking lot or private road, the police will not come out to do a report. Some guy backed into my 02 X last year (I traded it later for my 03) in a Home Depot parking lot, we exchanged info, and I called GEICO immediately. They assured me if the other driver tried to claim it was our fault, even without a police report, they would fight it all the way. So I think they are a really good company, and remember, they are owned by Warren Buffet's Berkshire Hathaway company!

ayanomich,

Thanks for the info. The ownership point was very interesting. A piece of trivia I did not realize.
