Hi All,
I decided to illuminate my cup holders with some bright blue LEDs.
I have to say I'm very happy with the results.
I've posted some pictures of the process on my website
enjoy...

I know, it's sad, isn't it. I've been doing a lot of lurking. But with a car like the X there aren't too many "projects" to come up with.
take care...

Way to go Digital..... I was plotting this exact mod for the last couple weeks!!(I guess great minds......) I emailed Tim to ask the price of the cupholder just in case a screwed up but all he would not give me the price. I was thinking of somehow modifying the 12 volt "cheesy" LED lights that you plug into the lighter socket and tieing into a low draw circuit that comes on with the headlights. I figured that would be the only time I would need them is at night in the dark. Anyways great job.

PS I cracked up at your comment about sending the "crud" to the lab. Mine looks the same and was worried about lifting the center console out but will take a "crack" at it. Well hopefully no "cracks" come of it:D |

Very nice mod!
Just one question:
What did you use to bring the voltage down from 12 to 3.7?
Is there such thing as a 12 volt LED?
TIA for any help! |

A voltage regulator will drop the 12V down to whatever you want. Radio Shack sells one as do others...
National Semiconductor Voltage Regulator
Radio Shack's Adjustable Voltage Regulator
I have seen some reference to 12V LEDs but your best bet would be to use resistors to drop the voltage down or use one of the above voltage regulators. I seem to recall some discussion on some RV forums about people replacing their 12V walkway/hallway lights in their motorhomes with LEDs. It seems it was 3 LEDs and a resistor to get to the 12V level.

| Yes there are 12v LEDs. I used a couple of them too light up the foot wells. I bought it off ebay and it was $5 per piece. You can directly connect the led to the MDX power supply. |

Nice project.
I was thinking though, can you draw the power from the lights on the heated seat switch? This way when you turn the lights on they automatically go on? |

Any one have thoughts on this (drawing the power from the heated seat lamps) before I go and try this?
Thanks
