Hello guys/gals...been a while since I posted here. I need some input. I feel a quick initial bump as if tranny is going into gear when accelerating from stop. I can recreate it all day long when quickly accelerating to around 2000rpm while holding down the brake. It never happens during light acceleration but only happens during quick acceleration. I spoke to the sevice advisor about it and he said its normal but I don't think its normal. What do u guys think?
btw, its a 01. |

I hope you don't load up the tranny all day with your foot on the brake. The bump will be the least of your problems.
Anyway, you should have the recall letter soon to address a different problem. So you may want to see if it has to be replaced or not first for the recall.
But your description makes it sound more like drivetrain play being taken up on initial acceleration. It would be more noticeable under faster starts. |

| The thing is that I have not noticed that bump before and its more pronounced when hitting the accelerator with the brake held down. Guess what I want to know is if this is normal design or is something not working right. |

| I'm NO gear head, but I know that the X is NOT a sport car. Holding the brake pedal and apply gas at the same time, will KILL your transmission VERY soon. And if Acura can prove it, your screwed out of about $5,500.00 dollars ! The computer on the X will tell the mechanic what you've been doing. TRUST me.......;) |

I don't normally hold the brake and punch the accelerator. I only did that to simulate a quick take off from stop. That said, I just heard back from the advisor that they will be replacing the motor mount to fix the problem.
Now only other problem is the rotors are warped and it will cost me $99 to resurface them. I mentioned to them many owners had the same problem and got it replaced or resurfaced under the warranty but he is saying its only covered for 12months or 12k. He is going to call the district acura rep and get back to me. I hope this will be covered. |

| I was thinking about motor mounts too ! They failed on many of the CL's which I have also....glad you found the problem !;) |

| Picked up the car and the bump is GONE. The only problem now is the brakes... but thats for another thread. |

| What year is your X ? What did the dealership say was the "cause" for the motor mounts to fail ? |

| Its 01 and the front motor mount was replaced. When I asked the service advisor he basically just said it goes bad sometimes. |

Another 'gem' from a dealer. They are full of them! |

| At least it was an easy fix, and its symptoms were minor. I once had a '63 Studebaker Lark with 3-speed manual O/D and the 259 V8. One of the side engine mounts would fail every 20,000 miles or so -- you'd discover it when starting out from a stop. In first gear, you'd feather the clutch, depress the gas, and that side of the engine would raise by about 6 inches. Not too bad, except: 1) the gas pedal would suck to the floor, and 2) the clutch pedal would slam out away from the floor. Talk about a hairy ride!!! |

Wild ride for sure! Motor mounts overall, seem to have improved. Bad ones were not that uncommon in the older cars. Now many rubber sandwiched mounts are replaced with hydraulic ones. But even the ones that are fixed appear more reliable. |
