Anyone heard this? I got an email from Curry Acura since I requested a price a few weeks ago. Here's the email:
American Honda has raised the pricing for Acura Care. The new rates will be effective May 1st. The increase for many plans is substantial. This will be your last chance to purchase at the current lower rates. Please go to the site and place your order today.
This is a no risk offer!
100% refundable, if you decide to cancel for any reason within 60 days!
There is no site on the internet where you can purchase for less! Feel free to browse our plans and our incredibly low pricing on the site. |

From the sound of this email, it looks like a marketing gimmick...very similar to the other spam email you get on the internet....
You may want to check out with other dealers in the area or simply from Acura corporate. |

Hmmm.....I stand corrected...:(
I am looking to get an extended warranty too...maybe I should shop around now...
Anyone in the NJ area have some recommendations ? Who has the cheapeast price on 7yr/100,000 mile warranty ? |

Here's some prices I received - I'm looking at a 5/100k/$0 warranty. These prices were current as of last month - doubt they changed. It's on an '04 MDX with under 1200 miles.
www.curryacuracare.com - $1,175.00 - $90 ($1085)
www.acuraofmissionviejo.com - $1,080.00
David Chaplin at 716 632 1111 (Ray Laks) - $1030
Keith 630-833-7700 (Grand Honda) say "Consumer's Checkbook" $980
My dealer was several hundred over any of these - forget the numbers - $1300 maybe? |
|
|
| kamalsyal |
For a 7 yr/100,000 mi warranty I got a quote for $1895 from Montclair Acrua, and the Mission Vijeo online price is $1685
Any NJ dealer prices would be highly appreciated ! |

my stand right now on the extended warranty is like this:
- if acura extended the powertrain warranty b/c transmission recall, like they did with TL/CLs, I would probably skip the extended warranty...
- if not, well better start shopping around...
the price has been going up in the past several months i think... |
|

Here's what I found for an '01 with 47K miles (7/100K/$0) :
Keith telephone = $1,805
Mission Viejo online = $1,805
Curry online = $1,900

| i still don't know why you giys are paying $1800 for 7/100,000 extended warranty when Geico will sell you one that covers any mechanical malfunction for about $70 per year. What am I missing here? |
|
|

I'm with you JJ_MDX. My wife is already planning her MDX replacement mainly because she knows I'm hedging on keeping our 01 past the warranty, which runs out for in April 05. But...if I had confidence that Honda would take care of any tranny problems down the road (because of this recall) I would like to keep it for another year or so. I’m not convinced that the recall is addressing the problems that have been brought up in these forums. With the info in this thread I really don’t want to do the extended warranty:(

Can you tell me more about what Geico offers. Couldn't find anything during my very brief visit to the website.

What do you think, Tim? |

My fellow Pats fan may well be onto something here! It does look like you must have the insurance through Geico from the start.
Unfortunately, I don't think Geico writes in Mass, but here is the link he is talking about :
http://www.geico.com/auto/mbi.htm
May well be worth checking out. |

Geico is offering 7 year 100,000 mile mechanical failiure (bumper to bumper) warranty with a $500 deductible for that price. I am not sure what the premiums would be with 0 deductible but I am sure that wouldn't add up anywhere near 1,800. I'd suggest you call them. Good luck and let me know what premiums would be with 0 deductible. Thanks. |

just FYI: Allstate also offers similar warranty called "Parts and Labor Plus"... details are sketchy though...
it has several deductable levels, starting from $50 to $250...
will try to get a quote on that and report back... since i'm with allstate...
also please note: they said residents of Texas and Virginia will have different coverages...
here are some details copied from their website:
How does the plan work?
Allstate Parts and Labor Plus Gold Plan provides coverage in the event of a covered mechanical breakdown, for up to 100,000 odometer miles or seven years from the vehicle’s model year or policy issue date, whichever occurs first. The plan provides:
Valuable protection: coverage for major mechanical components in your engine, transmission, drive axle, electrical system, air conditioning, steering and much more in the event of a covered mechanical breakdown. Review a list of all components covered.
Affordability: can offer savings over manufacturers and providers of extended warranty plans.
Additional benefits: including coverage for tires damaged by road hazards,* car rental, emergency road service, meals and lodging expenses for trip interruption, and locksmith service for vehicle key lockout.
What are the mileage and model year requirements?
The plan provides mechanical breakdown coverage options up to a maximum of 100,000 odometer miles or seven years from the vehicle’s model year or policy issue date, whichever occurs first. The coverage is added to the years and miles you already have on your car. For example, if your vehicle has 15,000 miles and you choose our 5-year/60,000 miles coverage, you’ll have coverage for up to an additional 5 years or 75,000 miles on your vehicle’s odometer, whichever occurs first. Please keep in mind that the Gold Plan is not available if your car is used for commercial purposes, is more than 5 model years in age, has certain modifications, is a salvage title vehicle, or has more than 35,000 odometer miles. If your vehicle has more than 35,000 miles, please contact an Allstate agent to discuss other options.
What do I do if I have a claim?
If a mechanical breakdown occurs, take any necessary steps to prevent further damage, then take your vehicle to any licensed repair facility. Have the repair facility call our toll-free claims number, included with your policy materials, to receive authorization for coverage before any repairs are performed.
Which payment options are available?
You can charge it with your Discover, VISA, MasterCard, or pay by check. Choose either the full amount or select one of our installment plans (which include a monthly payment fee where permissible by state law).
Can I choose the repair shop that I want to use?
You can choose any licensed commercial repair facility or dealer in the country.** That’s important when you have a breakdown far from home. Just call our toll-free claims number, included with your policy materials, to receive authorization for coverage before any repairs are performed.
Who handles my questions regarding Allstate Parts and Labor Plus?
If you have questions about the plan, simply call your local Allstate agent.
What if I sell my car?
If you sell your car, the unused portion of your Allstate Parts and Labor Plus coverage may be assignable to the new owner. This may increase the value of your vehicle in two ways: 1) the value of the unused mechanical coverage may add to the value of the car, and 2) the new owner knows that Allstate Parts and Labor Plus is backed by Allstate.
Is Allstate Parts and Labor Plus designed for all car owners, whether they have an existing warranty or not?
Yes! Whether you have a new warranty, one that is about to expire, or no warranty at all, Allstate Parts and Labor Plus can help protect you in the event of a covered mechanical breakdown.
How much coverage is recommended for me?
Choose the amount of coverage that best meets your needs, based on how many miles you drive a year and how long you plan to keep your vehicle. Find out how much coverage you may need by answering the following questions. |
|
|
| dipersp |
I had Allstate parts and labor. Was decent, but I really never used it, to be honest. I had a 2000 Maxima that I bought used in 2001 with 39k miles on it. I got an extended warranty that took it up to 5 years and 60,000 miles from the time I purchased the contract. Believe it cost $800 with a $50 (Or was it $500?) deductible. Contract seemed pretty straight-forward and listed what was included.
I like the fact that the Acura warranty includes EVERYTHING! The big thing I'm looking at is the electronics. If the NAVI goes or something along those lines, chances are Geico or Allstate do not cover, or there are additional costs for things such as these. I'd rather pay the $900-1000 to Acura and forget about those problems for good.
Allstate also said for "large" repairs, they may send a rep out to look at it. Now you also have to deal with the downtime. Sure, you can fight for a rental, but now you're aggrivated. Is it worth the money? For some of you guys with higher mileages and older vehicles that have to spend more, maybe. . . |
|
|
| jj_mdx |
you are right about the navi system coverage...
one thing to keep in mind is that the acura coverage of 5yr/60k starts from day 1 of your ownership of the X... so it stops when you odometer hits 60,000 miles...
one good thing about allstate is that their 5yr/60k starts from your current odometer reading... so for me, right now at 2yr/30k, allstate will cover till 5yr/90k...
i already inquired for a quote... waiting for the rep to call me back now... |

every time I see one of these threads, I feel a little better about paying the $1400 extra when I purchased the car for 7yr 100k with no deductible. The way it goes, if you buy one, you'll never need it, but if you don't buy it, you'll wish you had.

Yeah but I'd rather pay $350 over 7 years with Geico and save the 1100-1500 towards possible deductible if something goes wrong. Even if you have two incidences between the warranty expiration and year 7 or 100K miles, you are ahead. |

My credit union offered the EXACT SAME PLAN as my Acura dealership for HALF the price. They (Acura) use the same company too !
Shop around, as it's not worth 1800.00 bucks ! |

This was when I bought my 2001 Acura CL Type S new. The dealership offered an extended warranty for 1500.00 but would discount it for 1100.00. I said, I'll check back with you tomorrow. I then called my credit union and low and behold, they had the SAME company that Acura was trying to sell me for 742.00 ! I would shop around !

I just bought the 5yr/100k EW from Curry Acura (it is an Acura Warranty)on Sunday. First EW I have ever bought but with the electronics and transmission we decided to buy it. Probally a waste of money but if that was a major concern I would get a automobile that got 30 mpg and didn't MSRP over 40K
When I bought the MDX the dealership would not even offer an Acura EW, they were pushing a 3rd party and when I asked about the AcuraCare they just talked up the other 3rd party EW. |
|
|
| The X-men |
| Regarding the Geico EW, looks like it is not a bumper to bumper warranty, and $500 deductible is way too high, and you will be restricted to use Geico for auto insurance only. Not a real good deal if you look at all the facts. If you pay your deductible once or twice, it will even out cost of the Acura care, and it doesn't cover accessories and we all know the MDX has alot of accessories. |

I am considering going for the 7/75,000 extended warranty, although I had no interest when the business manager asked me at the time of delivery. I never liked extended warranties, and drive less than 10,000 miles a year. But having coverage for the Navigation, plus the AWD and advanced electronics is making me reconsider.
I checked the threads here and did some online research about price. It appears that the best for the above coverage term was $1,100 to $1,165 depending on the deductible.
Question is who to first contact/negotiate with at my dealer? The business manager who offered it (and I only met once) -- or the sales manager (who I dealt with and should know to give me a low price again if they want a sale). |

Don't even bother with your dealer - they won't beat the price others will give you.
Call Keith at 630-833-7700 (Grand Honda) and tell him you're looking for a warranty. He's the best price around right now. At the very least, see what he says, THEN call your dealer. |

Thanks for the referral. I talked with him and his quote came to five dollars more than Curry on a 7/75 (using Curry's promo coupon).
Just need to decide now which of the two people would be the best one to contact first at my dealer, and see if they can do better. |

Um, why not contact both of them? You already have a good price to compare against. |

I've found negotiating for an extended warranty price a mixed bag. I called up the four Acura dealerships in this region, and had to leave voice mail on three of them. The three never called back! The fourth wanted to sell one but would not budge on price and literally said that the deal I did find, to take it, and just make sure it was what they said it was.
Guess some people are motivated to sell the extended warranties at a discount, while others don't bother. |

I ended up buying an AcuraCare 7/100 $0/deductible at nearly 45k miles for $1,805. I originally got it from Acura of Mission Viejo but it turned out that as a Washington State resident I can't go out-of-state. I know Florida has specific rules about it but hadn't been sure about Washington -- it's either a law or just a Honda thing, go figure. But AofMV refunded my money quickly. Then they went the extra mile and made arrangements with a dealership in my area to give me the same deal, which was quite proactive and an impressive customer service move on their part (Louis Baumann was the guy there).
As such, I'd recommend Acura of Mission Viejo (www.acuraofmissionviejo.com) as a place to buy the extended warranty.
Unfortunately the price of the warranties did go up, it's been a pretty universal refrain from the dealerships I spoke with. AofMV now sells that warranty for $1,880. You can definitely save some initial money by going for the $50/deductible. |
|
|
| ghm2112 |
Thanks, william.
Per their website:
7/100K/$0 deductable = $1,880
7/100k/$50 deductable = $1,750
Easy to choose between those two as during the first 50k we have had to bring the vehicle in 5 times to have issues dealt with. As the car ages, it is hard for me to imagine our rate of visits will decrease...

I am still deciding if I should go for the 7/75 warranty. It would be an easy "yes" if I knew for sure that I was going to keep the MDX for more than 4 years. That's the big unknown.
Think it is worth the $1,165 anyway, and any guess as to how much the extended warranty would be reflected in the resale value? |
|
|
| The X-men |
| Extended warranty reflects very little in resale value. I believe you can buy the extended warrenty right before your regular warrenty expires. |
