| The recall notice for the oil jet kit shows atf filter for the mdx, at least for the 2001 and 2002 models. Is there really one there? I had always thought that MDX did not have one. |

| Yup it has one, a cylindrical filter |

| If so, I wonder why Acura doesn't even mention it in their maintenance schedule. May be access to is not easy, but from looking at the diagram in the recall notice, it seems like it's easily replaceable. Any ideas? |

It should be replaced.
But how? |

| It's probably like the "lifetime" fuel filter in the gas tank where it doesn't ever need to be replaced unless you have a massive failure or contamination. |

found this thread while searching on the same subject. Thought I'd see if there is any new information.
So can the ATF filter be replaced ? Has anyone had it replaced ? |

It's not mentioned anywhere in the manual ('04 here), so doubt there's one, or a serviceable one anyway (might require teardown).
The best we can do is to change the oil every 10K miles. |

| It is my understanding they were only supplied on replacement transmissions to ensure any debris that might still remain from the failed transmission can not circulate, not as a filter to be periodically replaced. |

| so if I have one does it mean my trans was replaced (bought a used one, actually a CPO) ? Isnt there like a "number matching" (trans# -> engine/chassis# -> vin#) thing that will tell if the trans or engine was replaced ? |

No, it has always been there, just not mentioned as part of a regular maintenance program. It's also depicted very inconspicuously in the 01-02 shop manual I bought. |

I don't know about matching the numbers. Not sure where a master list for each vehicle would be, to enable someone to verify that (date codes, run dates, etc.)
I guess you could have one. Many of us looked for it on our own cars when we noticed the filter in a pictorial of the transmission (exploded view) in the 01-02 service manual.
Our old forum "tech" at the time informed us it only came with replacement units.
Always thought it was odd the SM would show it and not even discuss it. And why show it on a transmission that is supposedly original and being broken down? Maybe they knew the service techs would be seeing them before too long! |

I looked for it on my 01 transmission and it's there. This is not a replacement tranny either, so maybe yours is there too. |

This is from MY own post!!!

It is only replaced when the transmission gets replaced! And I don't have to exercise my creaky knees and get under the car..
Sorry about that!
