On April 24th me and my family got hit "head on" by a car coming from the wrong direction travelling at 70mph. Thanks to god and our Granite Green 02, it saved our lives.

Right now repair estimates is being done by the dealer and so far it is 22K and climbing. I am wondering at one point insurance will declare it as total loss. Any suggestions or advise on this will be greatly appreciated. It is a touring w/navigation model with 33K miles.

Thank God you and your family are ok ! If they fix the X, trade it in for a 04 ASAP ! That is what I would do. Make sure to get what due to you and your family from the person at fault !
Most important is your ok !

go4gusto,

Glad to hear you and your family survived what must have been a terrible accident. At over $22,000 in damages, you may want to negotiate with your insurance company about writing off your MDX as a total loss. Even if you were able to get it repaired, I doubt you would feel confident in the integrity of "an accident repaired" vehicle. Count your blessings and buy yourself another MDX. Good luck.:29:

Wow, sounds amazing that no one was seriously hurt or worse...:( Another impressive story about the safety of the MDX. :D With as much damage as you're talking, I'd have to agree with the others and say get the thing totalled. There's no way I would ever feel totally secure or good about riding around in a vehicle with that much repaired damage. If that doesn't work, I agree with Fabvsix, fix it and then trade it ASAP (for a new MDX of course!:18: )

Glad there were no injuries.

An 02 with 22k in damage? I would not expect it to be repaired. Start shopping.

go4gusto,

God's always there!

I agree with all. Don't even think of getting the vehicle fixed. Let your Ins.Co know you are at a major loss..Force them into writing it off. If you try trading that bad a damaged vehicle, you'll get nothin' outta it.

BTW, do you have pictures of the damaged vehicle ?

Thanks & God Bless!

Glad you are ok!

Now back to business:

Glad you're ok too! I agree with my fellow posters, see if your insurance company will total it, and then get an 04 MDX.

I would like to know what's the other car in the accident. How badly they fared? I'm glad to know the X saved your family's lives. It's an amazing survival story. Most of the similar story ended up the death of the bigger SUV 'cuz they tipped, overturned, and rolled over several times.

Fatal wreck in Arlington ties up I-20 morning rush hour

Star-Telegram

ARLINGTON -- A 22-year-old Texas Christian University senior was killed Monday while driving on Interstate 20 in south Arlington, police said.

Mindy Maher was driving a Chevrolet Tahoe west on I-20 near Park Springs Boulevard about 8:20 a.m. when the vehicle struck a metal guardrail on the north side of the highway, Arlington police Sgt. Jeff Pugh said.

At some point the Tahoe collided with a Ford Mustang, and the truck rolled and came to rest on a grassy area off the highway between Bowen Road and Park Springs Boulevard, Pugh said.

Maher, who was wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Mustang had only minor injuries and refused treatment, police said.

The Arlington police chaplain was driving by the accident and notified Maher's relatives of her death this morning, Pugh said.

Officers had to shut down a portion of the highway this morning while investigating the crash.

The worst part on this accident is the girl is a few days away from her graduation.

First: Thank the Lord that you and your family are OK
Second: I see this is your first post :welcome:

Third: According to Edmunds.com your '02 is worth about $34K at Dealer Retail, since you are at $22K+ that is already at ~67% of the cars retail value. Most insurance companies Total at ~70% or so. I'd push hard for a Total claim; but either way I'd consider trading for an '04. We traded our old '01 for an '04 back in January and we love it.

Wow ! Again, glad to hear you're OK.

I too would push to have the car totalled. The damage will certainly show up in the title history. If you're entitled to a rental during repair, the cost will certainly go up even more. And besides, wouldn't this thing be worth a lot more to somebody in parts ? I don't know what the extent of your damage is, but this particular vehicle is worth a lot more than just bumpers and quarter panels.

Thanks all for your advise. Finally, my insurance totaled my vehicle and today I got my new 2004 MDX(starlight silver). I got my Touring w/navigation/RES for a great deal(I think!) i.e $40,900.00 including wheel locks, full nose mask and running boards. I will post pictures later this weekend.

Glad it worked out, and congrats on the new ride.....excellent color choice!

I believe if the repairs are more than 1/2 of the value of the car, you've got a good chance of getting it fixed.
