how could Acura not fix the gas tank sloshing problem ?. Words will keep spreading around by whoever has a chance to sit in the MDX about the sloshing of the gas in the tank.

I, last nite drove and stop slowly, every time i drive slowly and apply to brake to stop i always hear something rolling underneath. This is strange that it happens more at nite and when the tank is full.

After all this time and all the acrimony around this subject, I don't even know how to begin answering.

Bottom line: Basically, it's old news and everyone has moved on to bigger and more significant problems to complain endlessly about. Sorry to be so frank, but someone can let me know if I'm mistaken.

I concur..:4:

I have 13000 miles on my 03 and still the only problem I've ever experienced is the brake clunk. No sloshing, no rotor problems, etc. Am I lucky or are 03 s better than 01 and 02s ?

I guess each MDX is different. Although my wife is the main driver of our MDX I've driven or been a passenger in it during several thousand miles and I've yet to hear the gas tank slosh.

Now ask me about the brake clunk and that's a different story. :)

TheRunDown,

I know that this may be old news to some but it is a problem that you are currently dealing with. Please excuse the insensitivities of some the reponses. I emphathize...most of us have the same problem. We hope that there will be a permanent fix in the future, assuming the present one is only temporary.
Maik
The permanent fix is to turn up the volume on the radio.
This also will clear up the brake klunk.

But that only exposes the crappy stereo. :D

Ah, yes. And that is why the Infinity upgrade fixes not one, not two but count them folks, THREE problems!

I'm on MDX number two; 3+ years 50+K miles and my gas tanks ain't never sloshed - or if they did/do it ain't no biggie :1: :8:

Thanks God, I have a hearing impair . I don't see any problem at all. :2: I guess MDX designers are hearing defected that is why they see it is normal.:o

Actually the gas tank only sloshes at 4000 rpm (drone x 2) at night when you apply the front breaks and the driveshaft makes noises and ...

...and the loose Acura logo wheel emblems are flap-flap-flapping in the breeze. And, dammit, the HVAC noise on max is getting on my nerves, too.

I can't hear the sloshing, clicking or weak stereo on my '02 MDX because its transmission failed and I got rid of it!! :)

Seeing some of the responses so far, even if a transmission failed...it would be no big deal for a few. They'd even laugh if the dealer gave them this response, "Won't honor any repair...oh...and by the way, have you seen our newest Acura good-bye wave?"
:finger:
By the way, let us show you the door...no really...we insist... :flush:

Q: How come my MDX did not come with this "gas tank sloshing feature?" I demand an immediate refund.:3:

Between all the sloshing, clunking, suspension creaking, and other unacceptable noises I am sorry to say I am looking for a new vehicle. I am tired of going into the dealership and hear them say "they all do that". Acura customer service has been the worst I have ever had to deal with.

What a perfect match!Deaf car designers are teaming with deaf salesmen and service. If only all of the customers are deaf, the whole world will be buying Honda/Acura and the stock will skyrocket.

A frequently discussed topic here. For a poll from the past:

http://www.acuramdx.org/forums/show...highlight=slosh

Interesting that for most the slosh is rare or a non issue.

I can only here mine slosh if I turn off the stereo, have about a 3/4 tank full of gas, and drive with jerky motions. (rapid excelleration, braking).

I have not heard mine slosh in over a year.

All I have to do is put in earplugs and wrap a scarf around my ears.
I was told by Acura service that this is in their new TSB on how you take care of all the assorted noises. Geez..why didn't I think of that. Sic

After that, did they show you their new Acura good-bye wave and escorted you out the door?:)

Although the slosh is only a minor inconvenience for me (though others have the right to be more irritated at it--afterall, it's your vehicle), I did ask my dealer service manager a month ago the reason for the slosh. He was pretty upfront and said that they know that it's an issue (also found in the Odyssey) and has suggested to corporate that the addition of an insulating plastic lining within the gas tank will probably reduce/eliminate the occasional sloshing sound.

I will assume that if other cars or SUV's can be built without this minor "noise" defect, Acura could resolve it--at least, in future models.

According to "Princess" on the Drive Accord Forum, Honda has issued an Article on the slosh noise as follows:

"Thump From Sloshing Fuel Is OK
On ’99–03 Odysseys and ’03 Pilots, if your
customer complains of a thumping from the
passenger compartment when accelerating or
braking, the culprit is probably sloshing fuel.
When the fuel level is between 1/2 and 3/4 full,
fuel sloshing in the long, narrow fuel tank can
make a definite thump sound. This sound can’t be
stopped; it’s just a normal characteristic of the
vehicle."

After 6 months of driving, I have yet to notice the Slosh. I'm pretty sensitive to any internal/external noise during driving and couldn't have missed it, if it is Prevalent among all X's.

Just a thought...

Maybe you have "soft" gas available in your area!:7: :21:

Just add layer of teflon mesh sheets inside the tank to mimimize the fluid motion in the tank. This will cure the problem.
I agree with fatherlu, other people can why Acura can't.
Perhaps the slosh is Acura's noise trademark similar to Harley Davidson's distinct exhaust boom and they don't want to loose that trademark.

can somebody tell me this: Why do i hear some strange noise underneath the car like something rolling or clunking more at night alot of times when i brake to stop the car completely?.

THis noise happens more often at night than daytime?.

Someone in this thread say that it's a drive shaft making noise?, is it true? . THe sound is definitely not the sloshing in the gas tank.

Help me as i am about to trade this car........Even though it is still brand new, 2003 mdx

This is another feature of X ( They don't list all those features at the time of selling it)...
Oh_My_Baby
Oh well, look like you're having bad luck with X.
Considering 4Runner and Highlander have third row and possibly a hybrid, you could be better off by trading your X and get either one of them instead of sticking on your spoiled baby and rant.
In the meanwhile, bring it to the dealer and have them take a look at your baby.
