I think I remember reading a thread about this a long time ago, but I couldn't find it.
Anyway, it was talking about how if you turn off a hot engine, then start it back up within a short period of time (stopping at a convenience store, for example), the engine temp. gauge pops up to the top (H), then goes back down to normal.
Well, I just had the Emission Systems recall performed on my X. All this recall involves is updating the ECU (computer) software. I wanted to let everyone know that, apparently, the temp. gauge problem was software related and was fixed with the recall software upgrade. I think they reprogrammed the engine temp. gauge logic so that the gauge won't show a reading until the engine has been running for 2-3 seconds. So, from my example above, when you restart the engine, the gauge just sits at the bottom for 2-3 seconds, the goes up to normal. |

| Hey what's the "normal" reading for the '04 temp gauge ? Mine is always at about 1/3. Most late model cars that I've driven or have ridden in are right in the middle. |
