Any recommendations? ...and not for the ones looking like rocks please! These will be totally out in the open on the deck exposed to all possible elements, not under a roof easement etc. Just want something with decent sound for less than a $100 bucks. Found these ADVENT MARBL at BJs for $50??
Thanx! :) |

Last year I was looking for outdoor speakers and was considering Bose and Infinity. Then I found these at Radio Shack for $80 and bought a pair. I have been very pleasantly surprised at the clear crisp sound. I have been very happy with them.

| Maik - did you use regular speaker wires? RadioShack sells a different kind for outdoor wiring; whatever is special with that?? |

I used regular wire, however, there is no wire exposed to the elements in my installation. I encased the short run outside in a plastic conduit so as to match the color of my house.
As I understand it, the only reason to use "external" wire is to prevent damage fron ultraviolet rays.
By the way, the speakers are hearty, I left them out all winter and they are fine. |

Maik,
Do you have these protected in anyway (under a soffett or something?) or are they out in the elements (rain, etc)? Thanks. |

They are mounted on the side of my house about 9 or ten feet above my deck. They are not protected at all, as my house is a two floor colonial. They weathered a very harsh winter, and lots of rain and snow. When I was researching outdoor speakers, most said that they should be mounted in a spot where they would be protected. Since this was not possible in my case, I figured I would try these, and if I did not like them or they did not make it through the weather I would only be out $80 or so.
As I have said, I have been very satisfied and have no inclination to replace/upgrade them. |

| Thanks Maik. That's the same style of house I have (nothing really to protect these things). I might have to give these a shot. |

I would not spend very much for outdoor speakers in your situation. Speakers exposed to the elements the way you will have to install them, regardless of price, will not last more than a few years. I agree with Maik and would recommend getting the Radio Shack speakers as they are reasonably priced and sound pretty good.

Thanks Earl.
That's kind of what I was thinking too but I wanted to make sure the speakers have good sound (not too tinny) and it seems like these should work fine. |

| I installed some nice Klipsch outdoor speakers about 2 years ago. They are mounted under the eaves so they are a little protected from the elements. They sound awesome, as do all Klipsch speakers. |

I've had Cambridge Soundworks "The Outdoor" speakers in my yard for 3 years now and love them! My friend has the Bose all-weather speakers and is disappointed with their sound and particularly the bass when compared to the sound I get from mine.
All speakers in my house are CSW.

Thanks for the info Maik. I bought those speakers and installed them over the weekend. They have an excellent sound for the price. Good bass too! The $80 also includes the speaker brackets.
I would recommend these to anyone. For those others who have asked.... the manual specs 18ga speaker wire for runs of less then 25 feet and 16ga for longer. They do recommend placement with some protection from the elements. BUT they do come with a 5 year manufacturers warranty.
My total cost for the install was $100. $80 for the speakers and $20 for 100' of 16ga wire. I used a speaker selector switch that I already had and have it wired to a JBL a/v receiver. I expect the sound might even be a bit better if you used a dedicated 2 channel amp. The speakers are rated at 125 watts max.
I will post a picture of them installed later this week. |

| I installed the ADVENTs last weekend :29: I used the 16ga outdoor speaker cable from RS, and connected them to the B speaker outputs on our home theater system so I can listen to about anything outside, especially the Music Choice CHs. |

| I just used wire staples to tack the wire to the wood trim. I plan on painting over the wire and staples this next weekend to make a little less obvious. I have them placed about 20' apart and get a pretty good spread of music over the rest of the pool area. I actually have to watch the volume level because they do pump out the sound pretty good. |
