Does anyone know how to 'reset' the Maintenance light? It just came on @ 7,500 miles.

2004 MDX.

Thanx,

Hi ACURA58,
I THINK (I know it's in the manual so double check) you hold the reset button on the trip odometer while you start the car. Hold the reset button in for about 5-10 seconds after start up and that should reset it, I THINK.

HAVE YOU READ YOUR MANUAL ????????? It is stated in there as the sky is BLUE !

There are so many things in the manual (and the Nav Manual), that when I first went through it, learning all the controls, and Nav controls, I didn't pay much attention to the "maintenance light". When it came on, I just let it flash for a while. Then evenually it came on full time. I was really surprised to find instructions for how to reset it in the manual. for the "engine check light" it just says, "take it into the dealer", so I was surprised that I didn't get that same instruction. Instead it says, turn off the key, press and hold the reset button, turn on the key and continue to hold for about 10 seconds--at least all this is what I remember. Just another thing you need to know, especially if you change your own oil.

Anyway, some things are not in the manual, such as adjusting the brightness of the back up camera, or getting into the background menu for the nav system, so it's just easier to ask. So "Ask away"--questions help us all and this is what this site is all about anyway--asking and answering questions.

Jeez, not only is it easy to search for reset info, the SAME question was asked just earlier. Is anyone paying attention?

Unlike someone on this forum (no names please), who has nothing better to do than sitting in front of the computer all day, I don't! Therefore, when I have a question, i.e., Maintenance light reset, I go to the trusty 'AcuraMDX.org' site and ask away. Sorry if I upset your day. Poor baby!

Adjusting the contrast of the backup camera is in the 2004 manual.

You're right. Everyone else should do it for you

There is a search function for a reason, there's a FAQ for a reason, posts are not deleted after 5 minutes for a reason, and there is an owner's manual that came with the car for a reason.

All these people are asking is for some minimal effort on your part. With some minimal effort on your part, you'll find the answers to any questions you still might have (or that you legitimately can't find via a search) far more friendly, helpful and forthcoming. IMO.

I agree that using the search function is a good idea (when it works for an appropriate key phrase) ...

....but I could never understand the rationale when people take more time to insist that a user use the search function (or flame a newer board member about it) versus just giving a quick answer. It is sort of a courtesy thing, especially for newer users....to give a brief answer and then suggest they use the search function for additional detail. It would certaily keep new users feeling more welcome to participating and at some point they will become the information providers versus the newbie....IMO.

Actually typing "Try Search" is Faster than what you just typed. But to answer your question it gets frustrating to answer the same question daily. This exact question regarding resetting a maintenance light is also currently active in the Fuels, Octane, Mileage Forum (as well as in an MDX user manual).

This thread was started yesterday at 9:08 am (CST)
The other thread was started at 6:30 pm yesterday (CST): http://www.acuramdx.org/forums/show...&threadid=17221

I do not mean to sound cold-hearted to newbies; but the exact same question, asked less than 10 hours apart and BOTH in the wrong Forum  (this question should be in the Problems Forum).

I suggest a newbie orientation thread which teaches them how to start. If anyone tries to cheat then the point will be deducted.

I think this belongs in the Maintenance forum, personally.

Nonetheless, we SHOULD be nice to newbies. Pointing them to the search feature and on occassion providing a link to the relevant thread is appropriate and helpful. IMO that occurs pretty much all the time.

But a "lost" newbie unfamiliar with the board/software is different than a user who believes his time is more important than everyone else's and instead expects others to answer a question for which the answer is available in a multitude of places (including the owner's manual).

I wouldn't necessarily expect someone to manually sift through the entire maintenance forum (or any other) to find an answer to a question (in the owner's manual or not), but it takes all of 2 seconds to do a search for "reset maintenance" and a dozen relevant threads pop up from just that search.

Although most of my earlier post wasn't exactly kind, the minimal effort part still applies. I don't think that's too much to ask. Even a preface of "I can't figure out how to search, so can't search for help on searching so I can search for an answer..." is better than the implicit or explicit "Answer my question b/c I'm too important/lazy to look for the answer myself".

There is a "knowledge base" and a "f.a.q." link at the top of the page- these have been there for years. Additionally there is a recently started Site FAQ, MDX FAQ, and Frequently Asked Questions Sections on the main Forums page.

I do know on the 2006 MDX you hold the select and reset buttons for the odometer down and turn the key to on (Don't Start IT) and it will reset in a few seconds.
