I've just noticed that there's a smallish gap between my front bumper and the body of the car. It appeared recently and is about 1/4 of an inch, but you can kinda see inside into this gap and I'm afraid that if it rain, water will get in this gap. Has anybody had this happen to their car? I'm going to ask the dealer to fix it, but I'm afraid they'll just say it's my fault or that I hit something and that's why the gap is there. A little frustrating to see this on 6 month old car, so I"m just curious if anybody had this happen to them.
Any info or advice would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Alex |

Don't think is has happened on my 03 (about 6 months old also). Posting a picture would be helpful. Several people have temporarily removed their bumper for one reason or another. The descriptions made it seem like the assembly was pretty simple.
Hopefully it was just not tightened properly when initially installed. I doubt the dealer will give you any grief on fixing it, especially if there is not indication of any accident. |

That's call thermal expansion of plastic, the bumper is poorly connected to the body with a bunch of plastic anchors if you ever took it out. Cheap! |

I have the same problem, too. My right side is perfect, but the left side has about 1/2 inch gap.

I have the same problem on my '04'. The other thing I noticed after bringing the X home a day later was uneven paint on the nose section of the bumper. It looks like the dearlership have re-touched the bumper with more clearcoat or paint. The front lic plate holder has overspray on it. I showed both problems to the dealer and they promptly offered to fix it by replacing the whole bumper cover. The bumper cover which is basically the entire front of the X will be replaced with a new one. The new one only comes in unpainted black plastic. A local body shop the dealer works with will be doing the painting and installation. I hope the job is as good as the factory since I have experienced paint job done by painting shops fade and deteriorate only after a fews years. I will request for a warranty on their work. I'm skeptical on the longevity of the paint job now on the bumper and will probably trade in my '04' for a new one when the factory warranty expire in 4 years. Maybe I'll get a new 2009 with the Navi since I regret not getting it on my Touring X. :)
BTW I bought my X at Hopkins Acura of Fairfield (CA), seems like they are responsive to all my request and needs so far. They also gave me a good deal on my X.
I would demand the dealer to fix the "gap" problem on your X. |

Add me to the list also. I really am disappointed. I am constantly telling friends/family how the Japanese brands (especially Toyota/lexus and Honda/Acura) have the best build quality. And I definitely see an increasing body gap as a quality flaw.
My driver side is off by quite a margin, and the passenger side looks good. Another gripe of mine is the orange peel paint, and lack of paint in the door jam, under hood, and gas filler door areas. It would be better if they assembled the Acura MDX in Japan. |

| I had that same problem 2 months into owning it. I took it to the dealer (Acura of San Diego), they fixed it, and haven't had any problem with it since. |

Finally brought my MDX to dealer (Thomas Acura at West Convina, CA) to fix the bumper gap. Dealer spent half day and couldn't fix it. The guy from service department told me that Acura is aware the problem and said about 85% of MDX have the same problem. He also said that cars can not be made perfect. So it's okay to have this gap. :3:
I think I can live with that. |

After reading this thread, I checked out my 04 MDX and found the gap on driver side is a little wider compare to the passenger side. I went to the dealership where I have bought my MDX from and have the service tech check the out the gap and he told me to call their body shop department to schedule a fix. I have also walked around the dealership to check out their inventory and found that ALL of the MDXs that they have in the lot (very single one of them) have this gap. It's very strange that all of them have bigger gap on the driver side.
Acura should recall and fix the issue for all customer that what I think they should do. A luxury SUV should not have that kind of defects. |
