| Why the side fenders are warmer than the top of the hood?

After running the baby for at least 15 minutes, the baby's side fenders (above the wheel) are warmer than the top of the hood. Is it normal? I noticed that since the day I brought the baby home.
I usually touch my baby before getting inside the house. Very much similar to my real baby's cheeks are warmer than the forehead when I kiss her. |

| I'm sure it has something to do with the Octane number of the type Fuel you use. |

| I use 93. I guess it's something with how the hot air are siphoned out of the engine compartment. |

| It's serious. Look like the engine compartment doesn't have enough room to dissipate the heat. Overtime, it may effect the pain on the baby's side fenders. |

I don't get it. Are you saying your X is running too hot or that you would rather have more heat on the hood? Is the paint on the hood better suited to heat than the paint on the fenders? I have yet to see an X with paint peeling off of the fenders so I think you might be ok.:D |

I checked mine after I got home, mine were about the same or even a little cooler. Take it in, have service run a thermal test on it under warranty. |

| Uh oh, thermal test! What if they say there are no requirements for the hood to be warmer then the side fenders.??? |

... searching for a heat rash on your baby's butt - at least move this thread into the Problems Forum

Please vote for what!!? This thread should NEVER have been started in the Fuels, Octane, Mileage Forum - it belongs in Games & Humor

| Hey! Everyone just chill out... PUN INTENDED:2: HAHAHA! Anyways, maybe Oh_My_Baby feels that this a problem with his X. OMB, take your X in and see what they can do, but no one on this forum has ever had a problem with the "fenders being warmer than the hood", so as stated previously, I believe it's safe to say, your baby will be ok. |

| I hate (heh-heh, he says) to spoil the fun, but look under the hood! See that black stuff fastened to the underside of the hood? It's insulation, put there so that engine heat won't damage the paint on the hood (or my cat's belly, when he sleeps on the hood). The tops of the fenders aren't insulated, so it should be perfectly normal for the hood to be cooler than the fenders under the stated circumstances. |

I appreciate all factual analysis. Somehow the confined engine housing may create the uneven heat dissipation. I agree that the underhood insulation may keep it cooler than the sides. But the thermal difference should not be too significant.
1. Would the small headlight housing contribute to the heat accumulation on the sides and provide inadequate surface area for the wind to cool it?
2. Would the beam projector beam the light forward and siphon the heat backward that make the areas around the sides warmer?
I don't feel comfortable but not the point to bring to the dealer for the thermal check. They may want to check if my hands are too warm!!! :( |
