I like them. I have used them for years and years and I haven't had any problems (knock on wood) with them scratching my paint.

I'd rather wash it myself, but I'll only do it when the temp is right and I have the time. So, for convenience sake, I take it through the car wash.

If I can't do it myself, due to weather or time constraints, then
I'll go to a coin car wash and power wash the big stuff off.

I use the best auto car wash available in town. Never had a problem. I'd rather the car get cleaned by one of them than drive around in a grungy, dirty car.

I can't stand the coin car washes, they don't do anything but rinse off the top layer of grime, not effective in my book.

There are plenty of people here who will say they would/will never
use an auto car wash, I believe they must have many hours available to spend on their X's. I don't, I have a very active family and practicality wins out every time the X is dirty. JMTC

I just brought mine into the dealer for the 01 02 tranny fix, and the jet fix, is all it needed. I forgot to tell them not to wash it, but must say the wash job was exemplary, no visible water spotting anywhere.
And no evidence of polish being removed. (They told me previously they use a small amount of gentle car wash soap that does not strip wax, etc.).
Must say, it was as good as I do, including the wheel and side steps.
Plus free.

Free is always a good price :D

I take it to the dealer whenever I need a wash and my salesperson does it for free.

Hey gdot,

Would that be Bellevue or Lynnwood?

If I have to, touchless ones only. The newer ones do a great job. On the way back from the beach, I alway go though a nice one recently put up. The X gets covered with the usual salty spray in spite of the dunes.

Regarding the ones with brushes - watch out for the ones where the top one stalls in location still spinning, while the system works its wheel brushes. Eventually that part of the roofs paint will wear quickly.

Around here BP put up a new type of car wash a couple years ago that has thin soft sponges as bristles instead of plastic ones like fishing line. I taken our other cars through it without harm many times, but not the X.

I go to Southcenter. It's close to work, so I can get my car washed during my lunch hour.

Touch free only.

I haven't used a touch free one yet. How well do they clean the X?

Better than you would guess.

The only I have tried that I can recommend in place of a hand washing are the 2 called Tan's Touchless in the Bay Area.
One is at 7th and Tully, across from the Fairgrounds, and the other on El Camino Real in Santa Clara, just east of Lawrence Expwy. Truly touchless but a quality job also relies on the care of the attendants to remove the water before any chance of spotting, and do that while continually replacing drying cloths with cleaner ones. They pay attention to detail.
You will see a greater number of high-end vehicles, including customs than you would never expect to see in a car wash.
I only used them in the colder months, or when time was a constraint. Nothing replaces doing it yourself, but I believe it is the next best thing.
I used a couple of local washes and found them lacking in that attention to detail, having to go over several areas again. But I never had any damage to the finish.
