XenonDepot 4300k HIDs Installed - Click HERE for Original Thread

Well, it only took 3.5 yrs of ownership but I've finally got HIDs installed.

Nice kit -- well put-together and every component is high quality. Two days shipping from the Great White North to CA. Goes without saying that the light output is stellar (just as good as the OEM systems on my old GS and on the current G35).

I've been using Sylvania Silverstars (which I still think are an excellent halogen and a favorable alternative to true HIDs if you don't want to spend $400) but this XenonDepot kit is easy to install and the light output just blows the Silverstars away (and makes the stock bulbs equivalent to holding up a match to light the roadway).

zafer's intructions and pictorial were a huge help, along with xcel's suggestion to double-route the driver-side wire to the pax side first to avoid having to coil & wrap it up, Skewbeedeaux's mod to add some foam tape behind & under the balasts and his notching the battery "shield" to mount the fuseholder.

That thread will get you through -- start to finish -- with a nice, clean installation.

My only comments/suggestion/addition to any of it is to use a magnetic socket for the fogs so you don't drop the mounting bolt, and the '01 (and I suspect the '02) has different (fewer) holes on the front-end for mounting the cables, so you'll have to pick some different ones to ziptie them under the shroud. Make sure the ones you pick aren't the ones that secure the bulkhead/shroud you removed earlier ;)

No pics of my install or light output comparo's...they're essentially the same as the ones in that other thread.

If you're contemplating HIDs, the XenonDepot kit gets my full endorsement and I encourage you to take advantage of the current Group Buy. Well worth it and a very easy mod/install.

Great timing Worm-o, I just installed my 6000K kit from lavalighting.com a couple weekends back--took me ~3 years to get around to this mod ($$ def had something to do with that...). I agree, Zaf's and everyone's tips helped out, and fyi, lavalighting's kit is great as well--except i got hella ballasts instead of Philips as advertised. Apparently it's common knowledge (from a few of the lighting forums) that Philips actually OEMs Hella ballasts as well...

In any case, the difference is no less than stunning.

And I def. second Worm's accolades for the Silverstars--still an excellent halogen, which are now in my fogs...though I can't really tell when my fogs are on now with the HIDs!

Thanks to all for the instructions and tips!

Rob
