After having a flat (which required me to purchase a new tire), I have become interested in replacing the doughnut with a full-sized spare. Has anyone done this? I know the f/s sticks out a few inches below the rear bumper, but it doesn't look too bad. I for one would have greater peace of mind when travelling far from home with the kids.
If you have experience with this, where is the best place to pick up aftermarket rims? I hear that they run about $480 at the dealer. FYI: the Michelin I replaced (torn sidewall) was $160 installed (from Costco).

Do some searches, lots of threads on the subject. On the whole it's worthwhile thing to do. Look for rims on sale, hondacuraworld.com disocunts Acura parts. Get a quote. Consider a used rim/tire combo if you don't plan to include the spare in the rotation. Lots of options. |

Thanks for the tips. I had some success with HondaAcura world, which I discovered is run by the same dealership I bought my MDX from (small world). I'm still waiting for the rim to arrive. Thanks again.
