| MDX Trailer Hitch Cover Replacement Options?

O.K. I've had it with the little rubber hitch cover that Acura provides with their 2" hitch. After "losing" two of them (my dealer gave me a second one after my first one disappeared) I've come to the conclusion that these suckers either work their way loose (improbable) or they are nice souvenirs for sticky fingers (bingo!).
I searched for other options but most of the threads either are dated or lead to dead ends (no pun intended.) I seem to recall a while back that Tim was going to offer a real nice looking MDX hitch cover but I can't find it anywhere on his site (Tim, are you lurking?)
Also, it would seem to me that if the plain black Acura rubber covers are attractive enough for people to "borrow" then anything nicer looking would be even more of a risk. So I assume that real nice hitch covers come with some sort of locking mechanism, or am I off the mark here?
If anyone could point me to a source of a nice secure, attractive hitch cover I would appreciate it.
Thanks in advance. |

I'm also interested in an alternative hitch cover and while we are on the subject, I also need a replacement for the small plastic electrical connecter cover for the tow hitch that broke off (and somehow I lost).
And rather than one of those hitch covers that promotes your favorite football team or doubles as a step to reach the roof, I'm looking for something simple and neat. |

zafer,
That first link to the MDX hitch cover is exactly what I was looking for. I think the bolt-on would be a deterrent to "sticky fingers" in most cases.
Unfortunately, the link you provide is a dead end since it doesn't appear that Tim stocks this item. If he did I'd order it right away.
I seem to recall that he said he would be getting them back in stock about 6 months ago but I never heard from him again when I inquired. Do you have any additional information?
(Steps and College Logos don't interest me either, just the MDX or Acura logo).
Thanks for the links. |

Thanks for the links.
Check with Tim directly, I got the same one from him last fall. |

Hitch pins with a key lock are very common. |

I think the Go Rhino hitch step is cool. But they have one potential problem. The end caps are plastic and the right one will begin to melt from exhaust heat in time. On 01-03 MDXs.
Not sure of the effect of the dual exhaust on the 04. Maybe it will melt both, or the pipes are far enough out not to have an effect.
Here is the link... I have homemade SS caps in the end and it's perfect...

Lots of good information in the responses. I'll start by contacting Tim directly and then take it from there. As soon as this is resolved I'll post what happened.
Thanks! |

I have one of these and its handy as you never have to take them off completely when towing.

| Saw almost the exact same thing yesterday on an Odyssey, but with the Honda logo. |

Update: My hitch cover arrived from Tim in very short order and I've installed it. Very nice piece and very good service. I've already ordered one of the lock pins as mentioned here since removing and installing the 5/8" bolt each time I use my bike rack would be a major pain. And the hitch cover is so good looking that I'm sure that it will attract "collectors." Incidentally, while ordering the Ball Mount Lock from at HitchFinder I also ordered one of those inexpensive rubber covers as pictured in a previous post for occasional use.
Thanks all.
Here are a couple of pictures of the MDX cover installed.

I bought one of these LED auxiliary brake lamps from Harbor Freight:
http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ct...temnumber=90109
It's simple and offers a measure of safety too. This 36 LED version is a little brighter, more uniformly illuminated, and illuminates faster than the cheaper ones using light bulbs. And the best part is, it's only $10!!
To thwart the sticky finger crowd, I secured it with a MasterLock stainless steel locking hitch pin from my local PepBoys! |
