I have 2004 MDX and am leaning towards purchasing the Thule Evolution 1600 Cargo Box for this years treks to the beach. However, when I went to purchase the box I was told I also needed to purchase Thule load bars at $199 because the box will not fit the wide MDX bars. Does anyone have any experience with this? Do I need to purchase the load bars or does anyone have any other recommendations?
Thanks. |

| I use a Thule 1600 Evolution cargo box during the ski season. It fits fine on the factory rack except it pushes the antenna down a little. The antenna rebounds back to its normal position after the box is removed. You do need to purchase a special set of mounting clamps made by Thule specifically for the MDX (I think they were $25 or $30). The only problem is opening the sunroof, it makes a lot of wind noise with the box on. |

I purchased a Thule Cascade 1700 several months ago and it was well worth the investment. I didn't need anything special to mount, but it was a tight fit (moving the box forward enough to not impede the tailgate). The antenna was an issue as you can easliy break it off if you're not careful hoisting the box on the roof. Luckily it was only about a $30 replacement. According to Thule's web site, the Evolution series should be able to mount on the MDX's factory rack. I would have gone with the Evolution, but I have a black MDX and I wanted the carrier to match.

I have a Thule Summit cargo box #631 which I want to mount to my '04 X. Of course the wide cross bars exceed the width of the Quick Mount hardware that came with the box.
Will the previously mentioned Thule Quick Snap Luggage Box Adaptor Kit #05075 work on a Summit box?
Thanks, you guys are terrific! |

| When I bought my Thule 1600 they installed it for me with the conversion kit. Don't drive home without it (on the roof). |

| I would up buying the Yakima Platinum Pro 16s with some help from this site. The unit fits great, looks great and held a lot of cargo. In addition, the quick connect fits the acura factory bars without an accessory package. Thanks. |

Does the Yakima 16S interfere with the roof top antenna? |

| Had this pic of my MDX with the Yakima box. I don't know what model it is off hand (It's up in the rafters right now, but if you really need it, I can check it). If you set the mounts so that the box is as forward as it goes, it just slightly bends the antenna. Not enough to worry about. And no additional mounting hardware needed. I love it and it looks great! |

Thanks for all the great info and comparisons. The Thule 1600 and the Yakima Blacktop Pro 16s were so close in features. I made my decision on the ease of the quick release clamps on the Yakima. I was able to buy it off season now at a local ski store with a 10% off, same as available on the web. The pictures that where posted here and other threads helped a lot.
In my particular case, the box is situated nicely and doesn't come in contact with the antenna. |
