| Since it is not an Acura factory one it is less money. Just check with Tim at hondacuraworld.com for either of the real things. |

I wish they showed a picture of it with the 3rd row seat up. It seems like gravity would make it fall all the way backwards till it hit the door. Unless it attaches to the seat somehow.
I just got the cargo tray. I think its great so far. |

If you have the cargo cover, you'll have to move it to the back inserts with the 3rd row up, and it would then lean against it. |

Not sure about the quality and usefulness of this particular tray on e-bay, but I have been using the Acura OEM cargo tray in our MDX for over 2 years now, and I highly recommend it.
- It protects the cargo area from dirt, spills and other damage.
- It is easily cleaned (just hose it off, scrub with a soapy brush, hose off again and wipe dry).
- It can be folded when the 3rd row seat is up so it continues to protect the remaining cargo area behind the 3rd row as well as the back of the 3rd row seats.
- It can be folded from side to side, so when only 1 of the 3rd row seats is used, the remaining cargo area is still protected.
I think it is one of the most useful accessories that I bought for the MDX. :29: |

| I heard this is only available in graphite color from Acura...... is that true? If so, I have a saddle interior, so should I get an aftermarket saddle colored tray? |
|
|
| tax_atty |
I also have the saddle interior and didn't want the Acura tray because I wanted the color to match. I ended up going with the Lloyd RubberTite mats for the front and second row with the matching mat for the cargo area. The mats are custom cut and fit great (no trimming needed). The biege mats go really nice with the Acura's saddle interior.

Tax-atty,
thanks for the recommendation, but it doesn't look like the Lloyd mats have the 1-3" lip around the outside of the mat to keep stuff from falling off around it. Does yours? And how much was the rear mat? |

| The Lloyd cargo mat does not have a lip around it. It does have the dimples throughout to catch spills, etc. I think I spent about $125 for a set including the cargo mat, the front floor mats and the one piece second row floor mats. |

You can roll the mat up so it fits behind the 3rd row - it makes about a 1 ft diameter cylinder. But you really can't stack stuff on top of it. |

mdx99,
It is one piece but it is flexible, so it can be partially bent or rolled up if necessary. I will try to take some pictures this weekend, and will post them soon thereafter. |

ghost,
There is no need to roll up the mat. It can be folded in such a way that the floor behind the 3rd row seats is covered by portion of the mat while the remaining section past the bend leans against the back of the 3rd row. It does extend about 10 inches past the top of the 3rd row, but this section can also be folded and the sides can be hooked into the recess areas where the cargo cover would normally fit. This allows the mat to stay up against the seat back. In profile, it actually forms a skewed sideways U shape.
This way, you can still use the protected cargo area behind the 3rd row seat to carry small suitcases, folded strollers, shopping bags, etc. I have done it many times when carrying 7 passengers and some smaller cargo items.
I will try to take some pictures this weekend and will post them soon thereafter. |

I bought the one on ebay for a friend for christmas. They like it alot. It does fold up easily when the 3rd row is in use.
However, I did just purchase the Acura OEM one for myself. The Acura one seems thicker than the ebay one. |

I am not sure if the tray can be folded back and still stay in place, I have not tried it. However, it seems that if the cargo tray is folded forward (as shown in the pictures) and the cargo cover is installed in the intended rearmost position, the tray can still be folded forward with the uppermost part pushing against/being held in place by the cargo cover itself.
Although I have not tried this myself (do not have the need for the cargo cover), I am sure there is a workable solution available for combining the folded cargo tray with the cargo cover behind the 3rd row seat. :4: |

Hi all,
I'm brand new to this board. Just got my 04 two weeks ago. I don't have any accessories yet, but I've ordered some. When I get them I'll post pics.
Anyhow, I'm the person who "won" the cargo tray mentioned in super-chiba's first post on this thread. The shipping was very quick.
About the quality of the tray. It's thinner than I was expecting yet seems to be quite durable.
You cannot keep the third row up with this tray in place. Not going to happen. I would recommend a different tray. However, when the third row is folded, this tray fits very well and will do what the job I want (keep the carpet clean from the German Shepherd). The only colour you can get is black. I've got the saddle interior, so it doesn't match. |

I have never seen this cargo tray before and I have been searching extensively for one. That's a great price though. I wonder if the crease/seam at the base of the 3rd row seatback allows it to fold up with the seat? Maybe it just does not have a way to stay up against the seat back upon folding? Additionally, it appears to be a 1pc affair, so the physical act of folding the 3rd row up may cause the leading edge of the tray to extend past the top of the seatbacks.
I'm still searching for the ideal cargo tray. The typical one piece tray with the 2" lip all around the perimeter, isn't convenient when alternating between cargo and passengers (or both) in 3rd row. If you have to carry even one passenger in the 3rd row you'll have to take the tray out completely. I suppose you can fold it in the different ways mgmdx says but with half the 3rd row up, the area behind the seat is no longer protected and the 3rd row passenger will have the bottom of the tray facing them- if it has non-slip carpet studs it could scrape or snag clothing.
And if you ever need to transport a big item like a 4 dwr file cabinet or Xmas tree, the cargo tray only protects the cargo floor- not the seat backs. The lip at the front and back of the tray might also get in the way while sliding cargo in or out.
In my Grand Cherokee I'm using a cargo liner (Black Armor by Highland), which is a 3pc set that includes a flat tray for the cargo floor and a flat piece for the back of each second row seat (held up against the carpeted seat backs by industrial strength Velcro tabs). See it in this link at Cabela's:
http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/t...requestid=20110
The lack of a lip around the edges and the smooth tough surface makes it very easy to slide cargo in and out. And because it protects the seatbacks, when I fold one or both seatbacks down, it's like I suddenly have an extended cargo tray! The seatback pieces are separate from the main cargo piece so the act of folding up the seats won't force the pieces to stick up past the top of the seatbacks. There's a 6-8" overlap piece on the leading edge of the main tray that slips up under the bottom edge of the seatback pieces that prevents debris from falling into the crevice behind the seats.
Although it doesn't prevent dirt from rolling off the edges of the tray, it does protect the main carpeted areas of the seatbacks and cargo floor. I just have to regularly vacuum the sand and debris that rolled off the edges and into the carpeting.
I'm hoping they make one for the MDX. It'll probably be a 5pc set- a panel for each seat back and a small flat tray for the cargo floor behind the 3rd row. The beauty of this is that you'd be able to fold down all or part of the 2nd or 3rd row and have protection for all the flat surfaces. I have an inquiry into Cabela's special order department to contact the manufacturer for availability. |

Those mats look very nice.
I use the Honda cargo box (ala Pilot) and have not used the net since. Although the net has some limited use for 'holding things down'.
I also have less use for the tray which is designed to contain spilt fluids, as I would have any such containers in the box. And you can detach the box and carry any such spills easily away from the car.
A nice mat like you are showing would be much more flexible (literally) plus you have a nice assortment of colors to choose from. |

I am new to the forum having discovered it after picking up our new Sage Brush Pearl '04 with Nav/RES. Always wanted an X and the time was right to just do it! And I am glad I found you guys...amazing resource.
A cargo liner is the first thing I am looking for because its the place that collects dirt easily and hate the clean up. This is mostly because we like placing ski/snow boots (in winter) or camping gear (in summer) in the trunk for convenience. We also use the 3rd row often. Roof box also on shopping list:D
Looking at the one on eBay, I wonder if its possible to cut the tray along the fold line such that the lower half will fit when 3rd row is up, and put in the top half only when its folded down. It would seem that the lip at the edge of "both" trays would suffice to hold spills and dirt away from the line gap.
Anyone with thoughts on this from analyzing pictures? |

Forget about anyone having thoughts from analyzing the picture. I bought this one (see my earlier post). It's a great liner when the third row seats are down. It fits perfectly. Howeve, as I said earlier, it's thinner than I thought. I have concerns about it cracking in the very cold weather (it can get to -40C where I live).
There is no way you can have this liner and put the third row of seats up. Not going to work. The cut line is not at the right spot, although I haven't tried to cut it yet.
I am just resigned to the fact that if I need the third row of seats, this liner comes out. It's a no brainer to put it in and take it out.
I would not buy this again, but only because you can't have the third row up and the liner installed.
Anyone wants picks of this, with my attempts to put the third row up? |

Well, after several messages back and forth with Cabela's Special Order dept. and a couple with everythingsuv.com I still haven't found out if Highland makes a Black Armor set for the MDX. I even tried Googling 'Highland' to see if I can find a corporate address where I can contact them myself- no luck. Anybody have any suggestions on how to track them down?
I think I might just order the set for the '00-'03 Suburban with 3rd row bench and cut it down to MDX dimensions. The thing I like about the Black Armor liner over typical cargo trays is that it allows you to fold each half of the 2nd & 3rd row seats up or down as needed without having to take out the liner or leaving any portion of the remaining cargo floor unprotected.
I may even have a solution to preventing debris from rolling off the edges of the lip-less Black Armor. Some door edge molding (the kind that has a bit of adhesive in the channel) attached to the perimeter of the liner pieces may offer just enough of a lip to prevent sand and pebbles from rolling off the edges and into the carpet, yet not have too high of a profile that would snag or catch on big objects being slid in beyond the cargo area. |

I haven't seen the black armor liner you are talking about, but you might want to look at www.hatchbag.com They have great cargo liners that really do a great job protecting the cargo area. We have one for the wagon and it forms a bowl to keep all the sand, dog hair, and water in when we take them to the beach.
We have the acura liner for the MDX because it has some features the hatchbag doesn't have, but I wish it didtn't have all the openings it does have, such as the cargo tiedowns and seam openings at the corners. |
|
|
| HarvM |
Thanks KenF, It looks like it offers complete protection right up to the window sills but will it still protect the seatbacks of that second row when you have to fold it down (or even just half of it) to accommodate something really big?
Also, it doesn't look as though you can use the 3rd row bench (either partially or fully) when the hatchbag is in place. Kind of like the same issues I have with the typical cargo trays.

I didn't realize cabela's sold the hatchbag.
There are some drawbacks- and if lowering the seat is a requirement, then a hatchbag won't work for you. They are sewn up the side, and don't attach to the back of the seat. If you lower the seat, it stays up (at least that's the way we have the wagon set up). They also have a full-sized version that fits in with the second row seats down, but you have to remove it to use the second row seats. You are also correct that you can't use the third row seats at all when it is in. I don't know of any liner that would work with the 3rd row seats.
For the MDX we have the acura cargo mat and cargo liner. The main reason we didn't go with the hatchbag for the MDX is that we don't carry the dogs when wet in the MDX, plus the cargo liner has a "tailgate" that helps keep the inside of the hatch clean, and folds out to keep the rear bumper clean as well. The inside of our wagon's hatch is carpeted, and gets covered with dog hair pretty quickly.
There are a lot of different liners out there, each tailored to a particular use. I think the MDX liner is a good general purpose one, but has too many holes in it to protect against sand/water/dirt/snow/etc. Of course you can combine it with the tray for added protection. |

It would have been nice if Acura/Honda would have made the cargo area floor and third row seat back like the floor in the Honda Element (covered with rubbber).
I'm still trying to decide on which cover...
Has anyone tried Husky liners?
What about the CargoLiner soft material styled liner?
Also looking for floor mats... does anyone have the Catch-Al floor mats? The looks nice... They are smooth rubber.

I have the cargo liner for my MD but I do not have a pic of it. Maybe I should post one. They are both helpful and in fact you can have them both in your MD.
The cargo liner like the pic shows, covers the seat back the sides of the cargo area and has a fold down flap that protects the bumper. It is made of a heavy duty nylon material that is basically water proof but not totally. The tray is a nice rubber tray that will totally contain any spills but does not protect the bumper, the seat backs or the sides. You can put in the liner and the tray on top of the liner. Overall I love my liner and it stays in the MD all the time. I carry lots of baseball equipment, golf clubs and camping stuff back there so why not protect the cargo area. 90% of the time our third row is not in use. The one thing about it I don't really care for is that it certain spots it attaches to the cargo area with sticky back velcro tabs. So far that has not created any problem though. |

More than one member has spilled something on the carpeted cargo area that created a stain, it is very susceptible. The tray at a minimum is a good investment.
I also like the Honda Pilot compartmentalized fold-up box. Very handy for containing those things that could spill out. |

WetherTech (http://www.weathertech.com) has cargo trays in black, gray and tan. I ordered gray from them and it perfectly matches my gray interior.
I have a question to those having cargo liner. Are the sticky Velcro strips mandatory for using the liner? I am concerned they can spoil interior in the cargo area. I need to use the liner only occasionally when I take my dog (1 year old boxer) for a trip. Another question: how difficult is to install/remove the liner? Is it something that can be done as needed or it is impractical and the liner has to stay once installed?
Thanks. |

No the sticky Velcro strips are not mandatory. They are helpful in keeping the liner in place to fully cover the entire cargo area. Without them the liner just "rests" where you put it. They actually have the correct amount of stickiness. They stick when needed but I have been able to remove them and I store them in the little headrest compartment. When I need them I pull them out and stick them back on. They have not left any type of residue or sticky substance.
The liner actually slides over the 2nd row seat and has tabs that stick in slots in the back of the seats. The liner also has a couple of loops that attach to points on the side of the cargo area.
As I said before. If someone want to be really careful with the cargo area you can have the liner and tray. |

One thing you should all note about the Ebay tray (actually a LessMess tray): Although there is a fold-line, the tray is a 1pc affair, so the physical act of folding the 3rd row up causes the leading edge of the tray to extend past the top of the seatbacks or head rests, which may block rearward vision a bit and looks 'sloppy'. See the pics at this link: http://www.lessmess.net/acura.htm
There is one other type of cargo 'liner'. In my Grand Cherokee I'm using a plastic liner (same material cargo 'trays' are made of) called Black Armor by Highland. It is a 3pc set that includes a flat liner for the cargo floor and a flat piece for the back of each second row seat (held up against the carpeted seat backs by industrial strength Velcro tabs). See it in this link at Cabela's:
http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/t...1412&hasJS=true
Although it doesn't protect the sides of the vehicle like a nylon 'liner' it does protect the seatbacks, so when I fold one or both seatbacks down, the newly extended cargo floor is also protected.
The seatback pieces are separate from the main cargo piece so the act of folding up the seats won't force the pieces to stick up past the top of the seatbacks looking sloppy or blocking the view to the rear. There's a 6-8" overlap piece on the leading edge of the main tray that slips up under the bottom edge of the seatback pieces that prevents debris from falling into the crevice behind the seats.
And because it doesn't have a 1"-2" lip around the edges like a 'tray', it is very easy to slide cargo in and out (big boxes, patio blocks, furniture, etc.) without anything getting hung up or caught on a lip either at the front or back of the 'tray'. Unfortunately a lack of a lip also means that this is not a good application for wet, dripping items.
And, neither the typical one piece plastic 'tray' nor the nylon 'liner' are convenient when alternating between cargo and passengers (or both) in 3rd row. If you have to carry even one passenger in the 3rd row you'll have to take a 'tray' or 'liner' out completely and store it somewhere, which may mean you could be without it when you need it.
The Black Armor liner allows you to fold each half of the 2nd & 3rd row seats up or down as needed without having to take out the liner or leave any portion of the remaining cargo floor unprotected.
The only problem is I haven't seen it made for the MDX yet. I haven't had much luck trying to track down Highland so I'm debating whether to get the set for the '00-'03 Suburban with 3rd row bench and cut it down to MDX dimensions. |

Cargo cover covers the entire area behind the 2 row, including the back of the 2nd row seats. The 3rd row is not accessible when the cover is in use. The cargo tray can be easily stowed behind the 3rd row seats when 3rd row seats are being used. |

You're right. The second row, not the third row, can. But that's the case for both the liner and the tray.
Never mind then.... |

Could anyone please confirm that the cargo liner (part number 08P42-S3V-200) will fit a 2005 MDX. I did some research on a variety of websites, but I was unable to confirm this.
My wife and I have 2 Golden Retrievers, and I think the liner would be our best solution. But, I want to make sure I fit before I pull the trigger.
(I would make the call to the dealership myself, but I'm currently in Kuwait with the Army. Appreciate the help. Thanks. ) |
