Just curious. I just installed mine and I really like it. I like the tremendous variety, noise free reception, and selective features including the artist/title display.

It does not replace CDs in terms of audio quality. The bandwidth is constricted in comparison. But on the open road I am not in the frame of mind to sit back and contemplate the ultimate audio quality in a motor vehicle environment. But it is something you can enjoy that requires no effort on your part, and continuously no matter where you are in this great big country of ours.

I agree completely. I find it a really good thing to have.

I drive back and forth across the country fairly often and I used to have a real pain trying to find a radio station, now I can listen to the same one (if I want...) all the way from Colorado to Tennessee!

It's pretty cool... I like being able to get news whenever I want, in addition to all the great music stations. :2:

Would love to have it, but not a "must have" for me, but I use it at work via the internet, and at home on my dish (Sirius).
Have other "needs" right now that are taking my $$$$'s.

Dale - I think it depends on how much time you spend in your car. I live 6 miles from work and it takes me 9 minutes max to get to the office. Different story if I had a 45 minute drive each way.

In addition, may of us have MP3 libraries. I use this in my vehicles now and am pretty satisfied.

I have XM & it's not a "must have" - since most of my driving is around town, however it is a lifesafer on long trips! :4:

XM comes standard in the 04 TL. You get a 3 month trial for free which I'm nearing the end of. I haven't even set the FM presets because all I listen to is XM (and a little AM for local news). I plan on paying the $9.95/month for continuing the XM. It definitely helps pass the time during the long commute to & from work.

...and anybody who has lived in the Bay Area knows a long commute does not necessarily mean a far one.

XM is great! The wide variety of music, coupled with talk, sports, and news, combined with my CDs is hard to beat.

We were introduced to XM in our 2004 TL. Also, had XM installed in my 2002 MDX. An XM Commander unit was installed in the overhead sunglass holder of the MDX.

Any pics? TIA.

I don't drive much less than 100 miles per week, and I'd never be without it.

I never listen to FM anymore. The only "conventional" radio I listen to is a local sports talk station

XM is also great when you travel this way you're not always trying to find a good station. Seems whenever I travel anywhere the only stations that I can get are country, and I just don't like country.

Well worth the 10 bucks a month IMHO

I'm going to get XM radio so I can listen to some decent radio down in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. Yes, despite what the dealers may say it works in much of Mexico and Canada.

Just installed my Sirius JVC unit yesterday. It took about one hour; the hardest part was getting the antenna wire fished to the unit which I mounted on the back window pointing toward the driver. I went through the cover for the separation net and plugged the RCA connectors into the AUX input by the third row seats. It’s out of the way back there and the remote works just fine. I live a few miles from the Canadian border and still get a good signal, evergreens which hang over the roads will interrupt though. Heading to Yosemite tomorrow and will enjoy the new tunes.

As many of you know, I work part time at an all-classical-music public FM radio station; I'm an engineer and sometimes announcer. We have hundreds of volunteers who help with pledge drives (don'cha just love 'em?), mailouts, announcing, etc. One of them, a very active volunteer in his '70s, has a new TL with XM -- he says he hasn't listened to our station since he got the XM! Even though our FM signal covers an 80-mile radius in central NC, and we're on satellite and stream 5 different streaming formats on the web, it's not inconceivable that XM and Sirius could hurt us BIGTIME!

If you want to listen, we're at www.theclassicalstation.org .

OK but not for me. Here's why...

I have a pretty extensive collection of ripped and downloaded MP3's that match my musical tastes exactly. I have a Blitzsafe/Creative Zen setup in my X that can store over 8,000 of my personal faves - commercial (and monthly service) free. I can set up random play for all tracks, create playlists based on artists, genres, or albums in order and never hear a repeat or unwanted tune in approx 2 weeks of day-to-day commuting. Even if I travelled cross-country I doubt I'd feel the need for satellite radio.

What's the most compelling reason to install it?

Commerical free? CHECK
Genre-specific stations? CHECK
Wide and varied choices? CHECK
Access no matter where you are geographically? CHECK
News-only channels? I'LL HAVE TO FIND THE NEWS THE OLD FASHIONED WAY I GUESS.

I would agree, MP3's are the biggest argument against Sat. radio. But for those of us who have not bothtered to do much ripping, it is our salvation.

Frostyra, sorry for the impact. But as you have learned, it is addictive, even for some of your station's most staunch supporters.

I'm with ya, brother. I had an 04 TL when the X was in for work and I enjoyed it, however nothing beats the MP3 library.

Back in the days when AudioGalaxy and Kazaa were popular... I was ripping music every weekend. But now the free file sharing sites are loaded with fake files, it's too time consuming to find the songs you want. It's worth it to me to pay $10 a month to get 100 channels of a wide variety of music and not have to spend my free time DLing music from the internet. Plus it's hard to find high quality files off the internet. I downloaded an album off of iTunes, and it was only 128 compression. To each his own...

Maybe not a must have but sure is nice to have when you get out of range from your local favorites. I love it in our TL since it is already part of the system. I am now trying to figure out which one would look best in the MDX. As a side note on cost, if you sign up for longer periods of time the cost comes down. XM has 1,2,3,4 and 5 year plans - 5 years gets it down to approximately $7.50 a month. In addition if you add a second radio they charge less for the additional account.

I have not yet installed my Sirius radio into my 04 X as I just picked it up last week. I do have to admit I miss having it, as I had it on my 02 RSX-S. I have a 30+ minute commute each way, and local radio is about to drive me crazy. One of the other great things about having the Sirius is the coverage of all NFL, NHL, and NBA games from all markets. I am in the aftermarket car audio world and I would have to say that sat. radio is quickly replacing mp3 as the new buzz.

I've never gotten my music from peer-to-peer sites like Napster or Kazaa and everything I get is hi-qual (IRC but mostly from NNTP) of 160Kbps or better. Most of the techno stuff is 320.

I guess you just have to know where to look.
