| So that's what I'm gonna do. For my summer vacation I plan on racking up some miles on the X. I thinking of touring through upstate NY and VT and checking out the countryside. What can the esteemed membership of this great site offer in terms of what to see and do?????? |

| So, up in my neck of the woods, eh? Really need to know what type of things you like to do. If family oriented, I'd suggest go to the Lake George area. It's pretty reasonably priced and the Lake is pretty comfortable during the summer. If you visit Vermont, don't forget to pass by Ben and Jerrry's Ice Cream Factory. |

Depending on your timing, the World Champion New England Patriots play two home preseason games in August.
Foxboro is only a stonesthrow from So. VT. |

If you're in the area, Squam Lake is beautiful!!! It's where "On Golden Pond" was filmed. We had a very informative tour guide in our boat, he looked like Alan Alda. You get a lot of behind the scenes filming info, too.
Too bad the 'Old Man on the Mountain' face slid off, it was something to see! Also, the White Mountains are amazing.
We went to Vermont and New Hampshire on our trip. I love the motto of "Live free or die" from NH. The people were a lot friendlier than in VT, too. But then I'm from the South, so I'm sensitive to the 'friendly' thing. ;)
Ben & Jerry's is a great place to check out, too. And you get samples of whatever flavors they're making that day.
Have fun on your trip, it's a beautiful area!

I'm heading out today and would like to thank everyone for their adivce. The plan is to leave tonight after golf league and make it to the Buffalo/ Rochester area. From there we're heading east to Vermont with our final destination in the heart of the Northeast Kingdom. Hope to get some mountain golf in along a possible stop by B & J's :D .
Coventry here we come!
P.S.-What ever you do, take care of your shoes. |

Where in the area are you staying? I can recommend a lot of good stuff to see and do.....not to mention the Anchor Bar in Buffalo, birthplace of the chicken wing!
Or maybe you can even stop in and see us at Hondacuraworld! :D |

| And if you go as far as Buffalo, then why not proceed to Niagara Falls (U.S. and Canadian side) and possibly go and see Toronto. |

| If you do end up going to Vermont, stop by the Vermont Teddy Bear Factory too, you can check their web site for directions, but it's not too far from Ben and Jerry's. Try to visit both places on a week day otherwise the tours are kind of boring. The town of Burlington is very nice too, Lake Champlain is right there, and across the lake is NY State. Good Luck. |

Saratoga is great, especially in August when the horse races are on. You don't have to be a horse race fan (I'm not) to enjoy it. Take in a show on the lawn at SPAC (Saratoga Performing Arts Center), a great place for any kind of music. I fyou head north from NYC, make reservations at the Culinary Institute of America in Poughkeepsie (or Hyde Park) for a great meal and a neat experience.
Tim at Hondacuraworld is right about the Anchor Bar in Buffalo... the wings (and the pizza for that matter) are excellent. Easily the best thing about that area (second only to Tim's dealership of course).
Enjoy your trip! |

| There is nothing better than Ben and Jerry's Chocolate Fudge Brownie -- fresh out of the tap. Have fun. |

Thanks for all the great advice. Sorry, but I left before the last five posts. The Anchor Bar was in the back of my mind but it didn't work out logistically. Great golf was enjoyed on saturday at St. Johnsbury Country Club(IT's open to the public). The course was as terrific as the views. Monday we played Green Mountain National right after the Club Championship so the course was all tricked up it was still very enjoyable and this high handicapper fared well. This course has numerous panoramic vistas, bring a camera. Tuesday we continued our golfing at SPAC golf course. Nice course, fair condition and reasonable green fees for an out-of-stater. There was a show at the SPAC Performing Arts Center but it was time to head home so after golf we headed for the Thruway.
The weather (heavy rains) late last week caused considerable havoc on the festival outside of Coventry. Phish was still able to play both their shows on Saturday and Sunday much to my delight. It might not have been the Phinale that all had hoped for but you can't change the weather. Many thanks to all the very kind people of Vermont that made our trip so enjoyable. Special thanks to the Vermont State Police, a job well done. |
