| I recently purchased 4 6002i's for my MDX. (03' without the bose.) The people at Circuit City (where i got em installed) told me that it is dangerous to power the speakers with just the headunit. Does it negatively affect the life span of the speakers or make them easier to destroy? They advised me to either buy an amp or a warranty on the speakers (lasts 2 years for 50 bucks.) I don't know if they are telling me the truth, or if they just want me to buy their warranty package. I have 30 days until i can no longer buy the warranty. So, should i buy the warranty, an additional amp, or just let the factory headunit power the speakers? Also, if i put the volume up 3/4, are the speakers in any danger. Thanks:D |

typical saleman's junk, insurance on speakers? first time for me!!!
Don't worry, that factory amps/head unit won't even use up 30% of the watts of your infinities':o |

There is good reason behind the recommndation of an amp (as much as I hate to stand up for Circut). It is actually easier to destroy a speaker by underpowering then overpowering. These speakers, however should do ok at normal volumes off the factory unit, but if you truly want cleaner, better sound at higher volumes, buy an amp.
As far as extended warranties on speakers, I'm not a big believer in it. If you keep blowing speakers, they are obviously not the correct speaker for your application. If anything put the $50 toward an amplifier. |
