BSM-Should I or Should I not? - Click HERE for Original Thread

With Tim offering the special for BSM, I'm now seriously considering 04 BSM.

So........
I've searched.
I've read.
I've seen pictures.
I've read some more.
Still on the fence as to get it or not.

I like the MDX look without the BSM.
But I like the protection of the BSM.
Or does BSM provide much protection?
BSM looks better than a ding.
Or would I prevent dings along as I park far away?
Or is it better to fix the dings when I get them rather than preventing them?

See how confused I am

:banghead:

I guess what I would like to know is:

1. How effective is 04 BSM has been for ding prevention.
2. Any 04 BSM quality issues (i.e. getting loose, paint chipping easily, etc.)
3. Anyone out there who went without BSM for 1+ years and still stay dingless?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Great Q! I am also one the fence about getting the BSMs. The X looks better with out them.....but I just received my 1st ding, and it it exactly where the BSMs would cover. The car that caused the ding was a Mazda 626........the typical family sedan. I have no doubt the BSM would prevent my ding. But I wonder how effective it would be against a truck door.

More input would be appreciated here also!

If you dont like the look of the BSM, then you should stay away from them. Why would you spend money to make your car look ugly? Besides, the BSM is no guarantee, I have the BSM and I have 2 dings on my door. In most cases, it offer as much protection as a running broad, unless the other car is higher, like a SUV or a truck, then the BSM will do a better job. The worst problem is the rear doors of most other cars. The latch side of the rear doors are triangular in shape, therefore, the contact point is above the BSM.

Personally, I think the MDX is way too plain looking from the side view. That is why people add BSM, running broads, side marker lights or window visor. Any and all those accessories add detail to a otherwise very boring minivan looking side view.

It really is just a personal preference. I've got the older version and have been very happy with it. How effective it is, well. . .

I have the older version, and I like them. I think they offer some protection, but if you don't like how they look, I would avoid 'em! I think they look pretty nice, personally.

Good questions, though, it's a good idea to think it out before hand! I bet they're a pain in the neck to take off.

I have the BSM on my 04 X and I think it makes the car look sportier. I would go for it!!!! and did. Its your money so its your call.

Two years for me with NO BSM and NO dings....knock on wood.

Its all a matter of (looks) preference to you.

One more thing.....

When I'm at the mall, I park far away, ......at home or work, I'm pretty safe.

That's your best bet. Smart parking helps the most. I've seen big dings on other X's as high up as the crease above the door handle.

I don't have BSM, but after 3 years my only ding was when my mom let her long 318is door get away from her when visiting. If you're not safe even from your sainted mother, then stay away from everyone else too.

so i got one ('04 style for my '04 X). If'n its not that ugly for you, then get it. dings look much worse than BSMs. If you're lucky enough to get a ding in the same general area, then get a BSM later and cover it up! voila!
agreed that that sleek minivan like plain side bugs me a little, so i got the BSMs and am installing flares this weekend.. to each his or her ow'n..

Thanks for all the reply.
It appears the consensus is that BSM will help somewhat to prevent dings but it's more appearance thing then anything.

At this point, I'm leaning towards not getting the BSM since I like the smooth look better, and also force me to excercise :yesyes: by parking far, far, away.

Well it took almost 5 months to get my first ding. A fairly small one that did not do anything to the paint. I noticed it this weekend on the rear passenger door. I do have BSM's. In fact the BSM now has a heafty cut and scratch on it just below the ding. I would hate to think how bad the ding would have been without the BSM since it was damaged.

d*mn...it's sad to see all the folks with the ding problem...I guess it's a univeral issue!!!

I'm from NY and I've got about 10 dings combined both sides...and I am pretty careful about where I park.

I usually pick corners or next to expensive, new looking vehicles.
I won't park next to a beaten up coupe...that's the worst with the long doors...

I was at the mall the other day and a couple with a baby walks by and gets into the mini-van next to my X...I saw the father opening the rear door...and he had it about 1 inch away from my X...just because I was staring. I bet you if I wasn't there...DING!

Anyways, I realize people have more important things to worry about than Dings, but it's frustrating.

You Zaino your X, put in a lot of money to bling it out, then you drive it somewhere and some idiot dings you.

My wife could care less about the dings...she'll park wherever...and she'll start complaining if I skipped that parking space next to the P.O.S. 80' car with a bumper that is duck-taped, but happens to be close to the mall entry. "Oh, why did yo upass that up? Gosh...".
