Hi,
Based on some current deals that I am getting, I am debating whether to buy a 2003 MDX (manufactured 07/03 with 20,000 miles) with Touring/Navigation/Rear View Camera for $32000 (NO DVD though) or a 2004 MDX with Touring/Navigation/DVD RES for $39,500. I am in Ohio.
If I buy the 2003, then I will have to buy a DVD system for another $900. So, for fair comparison, I am looking at
2003 - $32,900
2004 - $39,500
Any suggestions?

I would go with the new one. $6,600 is not too much money - however, you are getting:
- 0 miles - you never know how someone else kept and maintained their car - even if it looks great
- Newer technology in 2004, more bells and whistles
- You can chose the color |

Ofcourse the new one is always better but the question is if it's worth additional $6,600 (which by the way is a lot of money in my mind).
Few other things to consider:
1. Life of the warranty.
2. How long you plan to keep your car? I personally buy new (although I was tempted to buy used this time around for the same dilemma you're having) as I normally keep my car for 10 years. To me, it was worth paying extra to be able to take care of the car from the start and also knowing that it has not been in an accident.
3. Is NAV/DVD absolutely necessary? The new 2004 Premium can be bought for less than $34K.
4. Condition of the 2003. Flawless or do you see wear and tear? Do you care?
5. If you decide to go used, I would absolutely make sure that it has not been in an accident (check through carfax or autocheck, look at the vehicle for any repainted areas, etc.)
Good luck. |

I'll get the new one.
New features on 2004:
More horsepower and torque
Side curtain airbags with rollover sensors
Tire Pressure Monitoring System
Dual exhaust
Satin chrome finish front and rear trim
New projector-type headlights
Acoustic windshield glass
Enhanced functionality of second row seat (40 percent slide increase) |

Thanks a lot guys, you folks have given some great to-the-point replies!!!!!
One last question, do you think $39,500 is a good price for a 2004 MDX with Touring/NAV/DVD RES in Ohio or should I wait a couple more months (around Sept-end/Oct, maybe) for the 2004 year-end clearance for the price to drop even more, maybe around 37,500? Or do you think the price will not drop that low? Since there aren't a whole lot of changes expected between the 2004 and 2005 models, I wouldn't mind buying a 2004 if I can save a few thousand bucks (since I doubt they will be willing to sell a 2005 for any less than MSRP) !!
Thanks |
