Keyless remote alternatives - Click HERE for Original Thread

Have owned an MDX for around two months now. So far, I'm pretty impressed with quality, luxury, etc.
The two biggest issues I have are the driver-side leather and the poor quality keyless remote. I'm just getting used to the fact that the leather won't look as good as the day I bought it (compared to cloth seats), but the remote is a different matter altogether.
I upgraded from a 5yr old Accord and the remote on that thing looked better when I sold the car compared to the Acura remote that's 2 months old. Very poor quality for a $35k car accessory imho.
I'd like to hear how people deal with this and if there are ways aorund it. I read someplace you can use Honda remotes for this but don't remember where I saw that.
The local Honda and Acura dealers don't know anything about this.
I know I can buy more remotes on ebay, they're cheap but it's not easy knowing the same thing's going to happen again.
I remember looking at remotes of used MDXs a year ago and thinking why people with such expensive cars treat their remotes so badly. Now I know they didn't.

Thanks guys.

You are so right. I have a 2002 TL and they share the same remote as the MDX, except the MDX remote does not have a trunk button. Anyway, after 3 years, the TL remote looks like it's been through a war. It's because it is painted. My 1998 Accords remote is an unpainted black, and I just sold it and it still looks great. All I can say is the Acura remotes are CHEAP, CHEAP CHEAP.

And don't forget, if you do get more remotes, you have to program the vehicle to take them -- just do a search for 'program remote' or some such phrase, and you should get the proper instructions. The X, and I believe any Honda vehicle, cannot handle more than three remotes at a time -- and you have to program the car to all of them at the same time. It's easy, once you get the hang of it.

While we're on the subject, if anyone at Acura is listening, do you know that other "luxury" cars (Lexus for one) have figured out how to incorporate the remote functions in the rubber key base. Wow, some of them (Lexus) even sense the immediate presence of the keyless remote in the area and automatically unlock the doors and let you start the car the car without ever even touching the key.

And us poor Acura "luxury" car owners are still complaining about cheap painted key fobs.

Acura - Wake up!!

Acura will have a key system like the Lexus on the 05 RL!

Well, even Honda has the key and remote in one on their Accord. Go figure. Now regarding the Lexus' that have that automatic unlock feature, clearly we are talking the high end and not like a crappy IS 300.

Any one know if it is possible to replace just the housing of the fob and not the electronics?
