...NO -- the MDX does not currently have a common databus.
That common databus is kinda cool and is the "how" that allows the adapter to display Valentine 'data' on the radio (or trip computer) alphnumeric panel. While $239 might be a fair representation of the work that the inventor put into the interface, I really doubt that many folks are willing to spend that ...
The databus has given technicians fits, as they have to unlearn their old ways od sticking a test lamp into a wire to verify that it is has voltage -- now they have to be willing to "follow the freindly manual".
While the concept is sound, I wonder if there really is enough similarity between an airliner and a passenger car to continue down such a highly complex path. |

renov8r,
Are you suggesting that this unit is not a DIY item for a non techie?
I would love to put one in my 530i, but would not want to risk causing more problems than I solve. |

The description of the product seems like it is PLENTY EASY for a DIY install -- I was just questioning how many folks who've aleady spent $400 on a V1 and 100x++ that on a BMW are willing to throw another $239 at an adapter to make 'em work a bit more "intregratedly"...
I think that, due to costs and technician resistence, most automakers will either stick with their non-databus solutions OR adopt a simpler databus that does not conform to the BMW system, so it is unlikely that the adapter will ever be good for more than BMW. |
