This is a great deal on a TiVo, as they clear out their existing factory renewed systems as they change the exterior style of the unit (inside is not changing on new units).
Get a 40 hour refurbished system with full warrantee direct from TiVo http://www.tivo.com/2.0.1.asp

These series 2 TiVo systems now include the Home Media features (Digital Music Player, Digital Photo Viewer, Multi Room Viewing, and Online Scheduling) for free!

TiVo has announced that a new service TiVo2Go will be available at no extra charge later this year.

http://www.tivo.com/5.3.1.1.asp?article=196

This feature will allow you to transfer video to your PC to view or burn to a DVD.

You will need to pay $12.95/month for service or $299 for lifetime. If you have more than one unit the monthly cost on the second one is $6.95, lifetime is still full price.

TIVO is a lot like the MDX Nav system. Once you get it, you will never be without it. I got my first TIVO 3 years ago, and can not imagine TV without it. Last week, I hooked up my new Direct TV TIVO HD unit (HR10-250) and absolutely love it.
Cable units do not even come close to the quality or functionality of DTV Tivo.

Anyone on the fence, do it.

I almost bought a new TIVO series 2 from TIVO's website, but I have decided to wait until my cable company Adelphia rolls out their DVR cable box. The TIVO is a great deal! I am not sure why anyone would buy a new one. For $150 you can get a factory refurbished unit from TIVO with the same 90 day warranty. Definitely the cheapest deal anywhere.

The only reason I did not buy one was because it only has 1 tuner. That means you can only record 1 show at a time. You can however, record one show and playback another at the same time.

The adelphia box has 2 tuners which allows you to record 2 shows at the same time. It might not seem like a big deal, but that are many times I have needed to record 2 shows at the same time while I watch a 3rd. Maybe I watch too much TV.

Anyway the Adelphia DVR is supposed to cost less than $10 a month and the box is free. It is a built in cable decoder and DVR with a built in channel guide.

I moved and used to have Time Warner cable and I had their DVR. It had 2 tuners and was $5.99 a month with no box purchase and it had most of the same functionality as a TIVO system. The only thing that it could not do was record shows by a certain actor or director like I think TIVO can. That is not a big deal to me.

For the price, the cable company DVR is the way to go. I don't think that TIVO we be able to compete with the cable companies, once the cable companies roll out DVR's nationwide. If they do, they will have to significantly lower their prices. I can't justify the TIVO premium over the cable company's DVR boxes.

The problem with the cable boxes is that aside from HD, they simply do not deliver the quality of picture since they ahve lower resolution.
I had both cable and Direct TV until DTV started with local channels and the difference was amazing. The new HR10-250 Tivo box has 4 tuners that deliver the best picture quality I have seen from an HD box, plus with a 250gb hard drive it can record plenty of HD or SD programing.

I highly recommend this product.

Maik,

I am so jealous. I've been telling my wife for years that a DirecTivo HD unit is the only thing that would make me upgrade my current setup. Now that they've come out with it, I have to try and justify the $$$. Maybe for once in my life, I'll try patience and see what the prices on them do over the next year or so before purchasing!
