| I am confused - Touring models have 6 disk in-dash CD changers, but my sales guy said something about the RES option requiring a CD changer under the driver's front seat - if so, is that considered an option or standard? |

chriswo,
Comes standard with the RES package which requires the Touring package. |

Good observation. I pointed this out to my dealership. At the time (March) even Acura's website said that "all" touring models had the in-dash 6 disc changer. I thought it was strange to put a changer under the seat in the top-of-the-line NAV/RES models, while lesser equipped MDXs had the nice in-dash feature.
Anyway, they had to do it though. The Nav/RES audio control in the dash can only do so many things. I don't think they were able to cram the 6 disc feature on top of the features to control both front and rear (all modes), and voice for the NAV etc. Nobody has told me this, it is just my opinion. |

The RES requires a different radio head unit (as eurohazard pointed out, it has to operate the rear controls as well as the front) and it probably has to give up some room to the DVD player which is an in-dash unit taking up the bottom-most slot.
Personally, I prefer the cartridge loading of the under seat unit vs. the one-by-one loading of the in-dash changer. You can take the cartridge into the house and choose what you want for the road without having to carry around a separate CD album. And those with big CD collections and a long road trip can buy additional cartridges and load different types of music in each one.
Does anyone know who makes the under seat changer for Acura? If it's a major audio maker the cartridges may be the same as those used in their home CD changers. That would be really convenient. I think Pioneer uses the same changer cartridges in their home and car players.
And technically us RES owners have a 6+1 disc CD player vs. just a 6 disc player. |

There is a discussion thread today in the Audio/Electronics section about how easy it is to replace the under seat 6 CD changer with a Blitzsafe Adapter so you can have a direct input for your iPod into the system.
I am thinking about doing that or may try replacing my CD changer with a Phatnoise (more elegant, but more expensive) but haven't made up my mind to do it.
I consider it an advantage to have the changer under the seat if you are thinking about modifying your system, you still get to have a CD player in the dash, too |

Actually it would be 6+1+1 if you include the DVD player which will accept an audio CD as well. |

It's not a big deal. I have no problem loading and unloading the player. I just do it before I take off, which is probably safer anyway. Then I toggle through all my players, CD, CDC, and DVD. It's all good! :D |

When I visited the dealership the past weekend to 'almost' get an 04X, they told me that I can get the touring package with Navi and then if I would like to get the RES or DVD they can install it. With this arrangement the CD changer is still in-dash and not under the driver's set. By the way, they told me that the RES (features and all) is the same as the factory installed.
Maybe I'll consider this kind of arrangement when I get my future X.
So, what do you think, is this a good alternative??? |

Be sure to price it out both ways. I have a strong feeling you'll be paying up to go that route. Then you'll need to address if it's worth the cost to not have it under the driver's seat. My Altima has an in-dash. I actually prefer the changer under the seat. I always feel like I'm feeding the monster in the Altima. Worry that through some malfunction, discs may get stuck and I'd have no access. Where with the changer under the seat you can always pop out the CD changer cartridge. Just my opinion. |

Your concern about disc getting stuck is worth considering, however most Xs with touring package have in-dash CD changer.
I guess both arrangements have advantages and disadvantages. |
