Ok, I have always hawked TiVo to all my friends and neighbors. I have used it for over 3 years and it changes everything about Television. I can watch shows that I want, when I want.

Well now, TiVo is rewarding its subscribers for spreading the word. I didn't need this incentive, I have been spreading the word for a long time and I have yet to have someone tell me they wish they hadn't bought the TiVo. And even if they did TiVo offers a 30 day guarantee.

If you are getting a TiVo I would greatly appreciate you entering my email address 4weavers@bellsouth.net when you activate service.

Of course, you help me, I'll help you. Feel free to ask me anytime for questions before or after you purchase, help on setting up or using it, tips tricks, instructions on upgrading the hard drive etc.

Thanks

P.S. there is a $100 rebate http://www.tivo.com/2.6.asp available right now so you can get a new 40 hour TiVo for $99

I guess nobody here has been interested in TiVo.

A fantastic offer is now available.

Existing TiVo owners that have some rewards points can purchase up to 5 gift subscriptions to TiVo service and it will include a free 140 hour TiVo.

The gift sub is $155.40 for 1 year of service but can also be applied twords $300 Lifetime.

If anyone here is interested in doing this let me know, you can send me PayPal for the subscription purchase (no payment by credit card please as that creates a charge on every paypal transaction after you convert to accepting credit cards)

When I place the order I can give them your shipping address and it will ship out next week.

Promotion ends April 30 although it may end sooner.
Hold times are quite long so I hope you appreciate this offer!

I have had a TIVO for about a year and a half and love it! Just curious if you guys have networked your and if you use JAVAHMO or any of the (not yet released) JavaHME. They are apps that allow you to do such things as view your pictures, check movie times, etc on your TIVO. The TIVO To Go service is pretty cool also, but there is a bottle neck transferring the shows from the TIVO to your computer as it only has a USB 1.0 port that slows it down.

Yes to all of the above.
I intended to write some HME code but never got around to it...

PVR/DVRs really do change the way we watch TV. It really is hard to explain it to someone who doesn't have one.

We have two ReplayTV 5040s units that we love very much!! Love the automatic commericial advance!! :)

I also looked into getting the HR10-250 DVR to record DirecTV HD programming, but after reading about how DirecTV is going to change the format of future HD programming that won't be able to be received using the HR10-250, or any current DirecTV HD receiver for that matter, I've decided to wait. Here's an article that appeared in the Washington Post about it: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dy...0-2005Apr2.html

You just want to make sure that you don't spend $1000 dollars on something that won't receive any new HD programming from DirecTV later this year.

I bought an HR10-250 last summer and absolutely love it. Although the unit costs approx $850 (now), DTV gave me $400 in programming credits when I bought the unit to help offset its cost. As far as not being able to receive future programing, it is not really a problem. The only thing that is going to change is the braodcast of local channels which will be in an mpeg 4 as opposed to mpeg 2. This change will be slow in the making as it will begin later this year in the 14 largest markets. DTV has told its dealers that they will swap out HR10-250 boxes and dishes for a nominal fee ($14.95) with new equipment as they become needed.
In the meantime, I have enjoyed spectacular HDTV and TIVO.

Maybe I am missing something? Why have a Tivo if you can get a DVR through the cable company ?

If you have one, we can compare features.

One big plus for the cable DVR is it should be able to record the digital stream and thus get more content in the same space without sacrificing quality.

I have a DVR and I love it. I don't see a need for a Tivo if you have cable and I thought Satelite offered something similar to the cable DVR but maybe I am wrong and that is why there is still a need for Tivo

DTV uses TiVo but is coming out with another non TiVo dvr. Dish has their own as well.

TiVo is the software, the user interface, the features and the functionality. Some people like vi for editing, some like emacs, some Wordperfect, some MS Word. Each has is benefits, different costs, and different user interfaces. Just like a comparision of TiVo to Comcast DVR, etc.

I am pretty sure TiVo would come out on top of any comparison though other than the inability to record the raw digital stream.

Again, I would be happy to compare features with a cable company DVR.
