CD-R Custom CD's - Click HERE for Original Thread

Wow - Just bought a new PC with a CD-RW deck in it and have been making custom CD's - GREAT. Let's see, I've got a blues collection or two, a rock collection or three, a latin collection, a jazz collection .... well you get the picture.

Of course I tried using CD-RW discs first - duh! Then I purchased 80 minute CD-R's and had all kinds of problems. Then the software kept dying.

Looking forward to advances in the technology in the future, I love custom CD's.

Anyone have any good do's and don'ts?

I found some great shareware software for:
1. Performing diagnostics on the CD
2. Blanking the CD to reuse (doesn't always work)

MB,

If you have a new machine, you shouldn't have problems with 80-min. CD-R's. I have a 400mhz PII Dell, and outfitted it with an LG 12x8x32x. It works well, although it won't write at more than 8x (bus limitations). I run Adaptec software. Pretty slick!

Good practices are: Shut down everything running on the task bar including virus protection. You need as much avaiable resources as possible to prevent buffer over runs. If you have the time lower the write speed down to 4X.

Good luck.
Mesa Beige:

I too love to burn custom CDs and have been doing so for over a year now. I have an older PII system, but have had no problems using Adaptec software, an Iomega CD burner, and such simple applications such as WinAmp.

Of course, it really sucks that Napster is gone.

Feel free to email me offline with any questions you may have. I've had great luck so far, but I usually do shut off everything on my system not directly related to the task at hand.

Happy listening!

MesaBeige,

Can you tell me what you use to wipe the CD's?

Thanks,

It's called SUPERBLANK and I grabbed it off a shareware site. It came zipped, the zip file was named "SuperBlank301 - erase CDR"
