How much would a new tranny cost? - Click HERE for Original Thread

Hey-Jude
I'm just curious if in a worst case scenario (tranny dying after warranty and Acura not stepping up, for example).

Has anyone actually had to pay to replace their tranny? Or does anyone know roughly how much it would cost?

Wondering if it'd be worth it to buy an extended warranty or not if that's the most likely thing that would fail.

Not sure if we've had any members who have actually had to pay for this yet, but if I had to guess I'd say probably in the $3500 to $4000 range......enough to justify buying the Extended Warranty which I'm going to do if I keep my X that long.

Its interesting that this question came up, because I was wondering the same thing yesterday. I am on my second tranny and I do not have any warranty left on the car.

I called my service guy and he said it would cost about $5000 to replace. Keep in mind this is in Valencia and the labor costs may be different.

Also keep in mind this is a rebuilt and not brand new, but it should be as good as new.

check w/acura regarded extended warranties grandfathered in on the older model MDX's. It's my understanding the newer models now have factory warranties to 100k.. I just had my 01 trans replaced at 52K. Out of the orig 50K warranty that was in place when I bought it. . My dealer told me since acura was having problems w/these trans., they extended the warranty to the first 100k on the vehicle. It was replaced at no charge to me. Consequently, my new trans is warranted till 100K or an add'l 48K in my case. Double check before you think they won't cover it.
