First regular season game: Thursday, September 9th

(if you've done this before, you can stop reading now ;))

For those of you that may be wondering what this is all about :

For the second year in a row (see last years thread) I've created a "just for fun/braggin' rights" (i.e. no money involved) "pick 'em" game on Yahoo! for the AcuraMDX.org group. I've been doing this for several years with some extended family and people at work (and now, the fine folks here at AcuraMDX.org!). It's pretty simple, fun, and makes watching the games each week a little more interesting.

This is NOT a fantasy league but rather a 'pick 'em' game - which requires considerably less time (and/or knowledge) to participate. You can get by with a few minutes each week. For those of you that might not know how a 'pick 'em' game works, it goes something like this... each week you pick which team you think will win each pro game for that week (deadline for entering picks for a week is 5 minutes before the kickoff of the first game of that week). The game I setup for this group uses "confidence points" so, along with picking the winner, you assign a 'confidence' number. Yahoo! explains confidence points as follows:
quote:
"Confidence Points are used to give a different weight to each game in a given week. You will assign a point value (from 1 to 15 if there are 15 games, 1 to 14 if there are 14 games, etc.) to each game based on how strongly you feel about the accuracy of your selection. If your selection is correct, you will receive points equal to the confidence-point value you associated with that game.

So, if you pick Pittsburgh to beat Dallas and assign the game a confidence point value of 15, you would get 15 points for a correct pick, but no points if Dallas wins. You do not lose points for an incorrect selection.

Each week's points will be tallied, and the player finishing with the highest total at the end of the year will be the winner of the group.

Each confidence point value may be used only once per week. So, during a 15-game week, after you have assigned 15 points to a game, your next highest available value is 14 points."

As mentioned above, the key to confidence points is that you can only use each number once in each week and you should use all numbers. So, you would assign 15 points to the game you are most confident in your pick winning, 14 points to the game you are next most confident in, etc... all the way down to assigning 1 point to the game that you are least confident in your pick.

In order to join in on the fun, you'll need a Yahoo! ID. If you don't have one, don't worry about registering at yet another site and getting more spam... you can create a Yahoo! ID and have it use a corresponding Yahoo! e-mail address.. you don't have to tie it to anything you currently use. Heck, you don't even have to give it much/any (real) information to sign up. Your Yahoo ID can be anything but, when you go to create a 'pick set' in the game (see below), I ask that you try to use the same name that you use on AcuraMDX.org so it's easier to tell who's who.

In order to join the group, just go to http://football.fantasysports.yahoo.com/pickem, click the "Sign Up" button (or "Create or Join Group" if you are a returning user). From there, follow the path to join an existing private group and when prompted, enter the following information...

Group ID#: 9508

So c'mon... this could be fun.... the more the merrier (although there is a limit of 50 in any group).

Just put my picks in. Too bad I didn't pay more attention to the preseason. I coach my 8 year old's football team so I more in touch with them!

Good to see everyone that joined the pool actually put picks in for week 1! After one week, mochapursuit has a slim 2 point lead over 3 others tied for second. Less than 20 points separate the first 11.

Get those picks in for week #2! Although a quick check and it appears that most everyone has their picks in already.

Good luck!!!

The current score. :(

Congrats to Chatham Fog (who, I believe, is member jmacdonald).

He took the lead in week 4 and never looked back... ending with a nice, round 1500 points and blowing away the nearest competitor by a whopping 80 points.

Nicely done.

Thanks everyone for playing!

Bring on the playoffs! :4:

Here's how the final standings ended up:

Lets hope my Patriots can pull another one off this year!

Thanks for the fun.
