i've yet to pick up my new 'X,' but i should have it by tonight. having already installed a sub in my maxima, i'm convinced i won't be satisfied with the stock bose sub solution. and after having read the thread on the gnx install ( CLICKY ) my suspicions are only confirmed and i'm shopping for a new sub before i've even bought the car. great writeup btw...
in any case, here's what i have in mind. i'd like to replace both the amp and the sub, but from what i understand of bose systems in nissan cars, the input from the stock hu to the sub amp, is not a normal rca or line level input. rather, some strange hybrid of the two. so what i was planning was to use the line from the stock amp to the sub as a line level feed to an aftermarket amp such as an alpine mrv-t420 mounted in the little hidden tray in the trunk area (under the cover) and feed the subsequent out to an alpine type s 10" in the stock location. i could use the amp's lpf instead of an in-line blocker.
everything's hidden and hopefully with some dynamat will sound very nice. only real concern is heat dissipation from the amp. so i was even considering mounting it under the passenger's seat.
i know an external box is the best solution for sound, but i want to keep it discreet and maintain the storage area that i'm getting the x for in the first place.
any ideas/feedback on this plan? any reason's why this wouldn't work??? any thoughts are very welcome.
thanks |

| Sounds like you are on the right track. Dynamat makes a huge difference in the sound of the sub. Make sure to use Dynamat Xtreme as it is easiest to work with. You may also want to use Dynashield spray in the areas you can't reach and Dynaxorb on the panel directly behind the sub. I have done this and still have the factory sub (I am working on an enclosure), and it even makes that sub sound better. |

| Congratulations on your new arrival! :claphead: The driver's seat (6 disc changer) and the passenger seat (navi dvd) may not be available depending on how you're equipping your X. Keep us posted on how it goes and don't forget those pictures! |

vqdriver,
Sounds good. My only suggestion would be to bypass as much of the Bose system as you can. I would run your inputs from the head unit and not the Bose amps. It has been documented here that the Bose amps tend to muddy the signal. Just my $.02. |

what can i use for an input from the hu if not line level from the sub amp? it may be different, but i thought the bose stuff was non-standard ( ie preouts, line-level...)
the x i'm getting has touring, navi, NO dvd. but the seat i'm referring to is the 2nd row driver's side. i think there should be enough room.
also, what's the preference for the gnx subs? is it mounting depth? 10" is the correct size for the sub right??? |

vqdriver,
AFAIK, the out from the hu is a line(low) level output. Wouldn't the out from the amps be speaker level and not line level? Or does line level=speaker level(higher volts)?
The Polk is used by a majority of people here because of it's depth as well as being able to perform in a free air environment. I don't think there are too many subs that can do this. I have an audiobahn, FWIW. |
