Anybody going to trade in for 2005? - Click HERE for Original Thread

With zafer's thread, now we know what 2005 MDX will have. Anybody thinking about trading in current MDX for 2005 MDX?

I was thinking about trading in my 2003, but now I think that it is not worth for 2005 changes. I am not sure until I test drive but I think I am going to wait for 2006 redesign.

It's not worth the incremental changes in my opinion. There is nothing there that is really significant. Wait for a 2006 or better yet, a 2007 when they have had a year to get the bugs out.

That's what I said earlier in the year when initial speculation was for an '06 redesign after the new Odyssey. I had an '01 and traded for an '04 so maybe in '07 ...

I'm not but I have a 2004 model and while some of the enhances are nice it has nothing that I can't live without and nothing that I drool over. If you have one of the earlier models all of the incremental changes over the years can look very enticing.

If waiting for the 2006 redesign you take the chance that the body style may change to something you dislike and you wish you had purchased a 2005.

I'm sure the 2005 will be a popular SUV and the 2006 will be very nice, with a few bugs that a newly redesigned model brings. Now if we were talking about a 2007 MDX, that would be a different story. I may be interested by then. But my 2004 will just be broken in by then! :D

no plans for me to trade in my 2001 MDX...I love my vehicle.

I did however just put a deposit on an order for a 2005RL. Arriving in October 25th, 2004.

I can see that as the new RL is smoking good looking. I wish I had the dough to own one.

Hmmm. Probably look at trading for an '07 model, leaving them enough time to work out some of the bugs from the '06 redesign...

In any case, there's nothing compelling in the '05 model that would make me trade...

I think the only feature I would have liked in my 04 MDX is the OnStar. It can track a stolen car better than LoJack which depends on whether local law enforcement support them.

The improved NAV isn't a big deal. I would wait 2 years for the upgrade because this version isn't the excellent NAV going into the 05 RL which uses IBM voice technology to support 560 commands in regular english.

Since the 04 MDX already has voice command support, it should be able to support the IBM version once it comes out for the 06 or 07 MDX.

Now if you want real-time traffic support build into your NAV (like the 05 RL), you will definitely need to get an 05 MDX because of the integrated XM Support which is required.

Yes... I have an 02 and will be ending my lease early for the 05 when they start arriving in Oct.

Trading in for a 05 or 06 is a tough one. On one hand, hopefully the 06 will be redeign, and once again you will own a vehicle that is unique. Given the fact Acura usually have the problems with its 1st year production runs, that uniqueness may come with a heavy price.
On the other hand, the 05 have been in production for 5 years, most of the major bugs have been worked out, some may disagree, but never the less, it is one hell of a vehicle for the price. If you take into the consideration of the deep discounts that the 01 to 02 buyers wasn't able to get. The 05 is actually cheaper than the 01 and the 02s.

Traffic support will not be in the 05 MDX, just the RL...

What I meant was that since traffic reports are only available though XM, I'm guessing that adding traffic reporting capability will probably only require a software update since all the XM hardware will already be in the 05 MDX. Even though traffic updates are not in the new MDX, the 05 will be ready for it when it is.

I seriously doubt you will ever see it as an after-the-fact upgrade in the 05... There is a decoder that is also required that may or may not be in the 05, as well as different software..

When my lease was up on my 01, I was going to wait for the 05 but with the additional $$ for more bells & whistles, I decided to get the 04 instead and save some $$$. But I would love to have the onstar available in my 04.

Yes, I have already talked to my dealer, we have an '04 with 5000 miles, will be updating to a 2005. The '05 has the few extra's we were looking for on the '04. Does anyone know if the interior colors will change (white with black interior???). I wanted the FX35 but wife wanted the MDX.... her SUV so we went with the MDX.... to me, the Acura is to bland! I cannot agree that the MDX is bland. I think it's the best looking SUV on the market, both inside and out, in this price bracket. As for the FX, I hate the look of this vehicle, especially the orangy interior. To me the Murano is much better looking. It is however clear, that everyone has their own tastes, and if the FX is your bag, then go for it.

I've only seen the orange dash in the Murano - looks like all or most of the Nissan products are getting this. BIG mistake! I had a beautiful dash in my '00 Maxima - almost a grey face gauge cluster with bold blues and reds at night on a black gauge. One of the reasons I purchased the car in the first place, bad as that is!

Now was the 00 Maxima the last good looking Maxima, because the last 2 generations I do not like, but prior to this, I liked them all.

No trade-in here. Looking to have my 2001 go the distance and get old together.

06 or 07 might get a hybrid or a major change. I'd wait.

Well, as you can tell from my sig, I made the leap and traded my '03 for an '05. After a week, I can gladly report that I am _very_ happy with my decision.

If you are seriously thinking about it, I would suggest go and play, er, test drive one for a bit. There are numerous little changes that I keep finding that Honda has made (and all good, so far). I think I find another one every few hours. Plus, overall, I cannot put my finger on exactly why, but the '05 just feels more solid than the '03 (peformance, general feel, etc). May just be me, but that's what I've noticed.

By the way, maybe I missed it, but here's a few things that Honda improved that I did not see in the literature...
- power lumbar on driver's seat
- gas cap now is tethered, with a hook on the door to hold out of the way
- Material now covers pillar that used to get marked up from seat belt snapping back

I've been waffling over this decision for the better part of a year! I've researched many other vehicles* and I've come to the conclusion that the MDX is still the perfect car for me.
My 2002 has 36,000 trouble-free miles and I'm very tempted to take advantage of the attractive trade-in value towards a 2005. On the other hand, I'm waiting patiently (and checking this site daily) to see any details concerning the 2006 redesign.

* Other cars (and trucks) I've been considering:

Toyota Tundra Double Cab
Toyota 4Runner
Toyota Land Cruiser
Volvo XC90
Audi allroad
'05 Subaru Outback
